The referendum was called precisely because UKIP put an immense amount of pressure on the Tories from the right. UKIP never pulled anything close to as many Labour voters into the tent as they did Conservatives. Here's a decent rundown of where their support comes from. Rural England was never a Labour heartland. gently caress the UK either way though it's the 4th.
