It wasn't close, but Bernie definitely racked up a lot of votes and supporters. Getting him on board, especially by adopting positions he's been advocating, would go a long way towards increasing turnout, and it looks like 2016 is going to be a turnout election. Furthermore, it's utterly worth going for all the votes possible, because it's probably going to be necessary to near entirely throw Republicans out of office in order to get anything at all done.

So what if those people are drowning in debt? Why should the government care? Late 20-somethings/early 30-somethings are damaged goods. If you want to fix this student loan issue, the best way to do it is for the upcoming generation. Millenials aren't the future.

Ah yes, deliberately antagonizing a generation has never had bad consequences before, nope never.

I really am kinda astounded by people's arguments on this. College debt load is a serious problem for everyone under the age of about 35 or so. Should tuition be free? drat right it should be. But if that's all you do, you're ignoring a very large chunk of the problem.

The poster who compared it to the drug war was apt. If you legalize all drugs, but still keep all the non-violent drug offenders in prison, you haven't fixed the problem yet. All you've done in this case is kept the problem from continuing to get worse.

And again, I'm not saying we should write off all student loan debt as that'd be completely unworkable and possibly cause a massive financial crash due to how big the overall balance of student debt is. But there's nothing stopping the government from giving everyone who has/had student loan debt a tax credit to offset some of the burden, or a CFPB rule stipulating that all lenders must use income-based repayment schedules for student loans.

But I guess I'm just a crab (whatever the hell that means) for wanting to solve problems and undo damage instead of keeping things from getting worse. Is that really where the left is these days?

Because there's no guarantee people wouldn't just go "welp it's solved forever, no need to do anything else!" I believe that in the LGBT movement the trans community was extremely worried about this sort of thing happening, as they're by far the smallest part of that group. If you hypothetically fixed this for say everyone under the age of 20, that 21-30 year old group that got royally hosed may never get any relief. Demanding a comprehensive solution ensures no one gets left out in the cold. I'd expect the same argument if they just did a one-time bit of debt relief for everyone from 21-30, as the younger folks would still be getting screwed.

Trump has a non-zero chance of becoming President. Nate Silver puts it at 20%, which seems way too high but ok. All the grownups left in federal politics need to do everything possible to keep him out, including locking down the "Bernout" vote.

Hillary should be especially motivated, history will not be kind if she somehow snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

If you go by that definition than yeah poster "DICKY MOUSE" is correct lying about using protection isnt rape.

Would you say that a woman lying about being on the pill equals rape?

Or someone misrepresenting themselves to get sex, Like pretending to be something/someone they arent? e.g. a music producer, wealthy, single etc

or like what happened in revenge of nerds when that nerd posed as her boyfriend?

Lets say Gretchen Carlson did gently caress her boss to keep her job. Would that have been rape?

Dicky I understand how you might differentiate between coercion and rape. But rape isnt just a dude in a ski mask hiding in the bushes waiting to assault someone. Whether it be by force, threat of violence, or job security. Its wrong pressure people to do stuff they dont want to do.

Do people who oppose "college debt relief, but only for incoming students" under the premise of "but what about the debt I incurred when it was MY TIME at college?" have just not read the Bible?

quote:

For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. So when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Like, this is Do Unto Others 101.
