https://evidencebasedactivism.wordpress.com/2016/01/04/junior-doctors-strike/ It's loving shameful that absent updating one or two links, this article is precisely as relevant as it was when I wrote it as an angry letter to my MP last November, and when I first published it in January Please feel free to steal it and email it to your MP. Especially if they're a Tory.

It's even more concerning now that we have the ammo from the DoH civil servants themselves - that really should be a standard cut and paste into every single article about the 7 day NHS.

Yeah, I need to write a thing about that sometime. I've just really run out of energy on it to some extent. My anger has long since given way to resignation and disappointment.

Oberleutnant posted:There was a BBC news article about it today too. I could only skim but from the looks of it it was trying to "explain" the conflict by just pointing out that junior drs are apparently miffed only about the scale of pay, with little or no mention of the staffing issues. I thought we had a leak a while back that said that even by the government's own estimation they didn't have the staff? Did the entire world just forget that?

Baron Corbyn posted:In the terrible new play, they go to great lengths to show that Snape, despite what you mentioned, is supposed to be a heroic character. They end up in an alternate timeline where Snape's alive and one of the characters explains to Snape everything that he obviously already knows about being a plant for Dumbledore and tells him what a hero he is for doing so. Yeah I read the play and thought they portrayed Snape as a fanfic author who didn't understand the character would. The play is a massive piece of poo poo.

Like smoking is cool, it's objectively cool, cool people smoke and smoking is cool, but nobody on earth can possibly look cool while vaping. I would rather die of lung cancer and look cool than vape and die because my testicles crawled up so far they erupted out of the back of my head.

David Davis was in Northern Ireland today trying to make friendly noises. Indicated again that he thinks the UK can retain tariff free access to the single market and force the EU to accept restrictions on free movement, though again he reiterated the Tory line there will be no hard border in Ireland (or internal UK borders between NI and Britain) so I'm not exactly clear how he plans on imposing quotas...

Well, if we take the width of an average human to be 1 foot 6 inches, and the northern irish land border is 310 miles long, and human walking speed is 4.55 feet per second, then a maximum of three million and sixty-nine thousand migrants can enter the UK every second via an unsecured northern irish border. Meaning we could ensure that the entire non-uk population of earth could not enter the country for at least forty minutes. Can't argue with those numbers, that's a quota.

Well yes that's why I settle for the in between option, neither smoking nor vaping, being not as cool as someone who is smoking but significantly more cool than someone who is vaping, and less likely to die than either.
