This is actually the right answer. Your life is only as meaningless as you make it for yourself. Now go out and climb a mountain or finish your project car or kill that last boss!

I wasn't exactly friends with him, but killing my last boss just doesn't sound like it will make my life more meaningful...

We humans are one among millions of separate species who live in a world burgeoning, overflowing with life. And yet, most species that ever were are no more. After flourishing for one hundred fifty million years, the dinosaurs became extinct. Every last one. No species is guaranteed its tenure on this planet. And humans, the first beings to devise the means for their own destruction, have been here for only several million years.

We are rare and precious because we are alive, because we can think. We are privileged to influence and perhaps control our future. We have an obligation to fight for life on Earth — not just for ourselves but for all those, humans and others, who came before us and to whom we are beholden, and for all those who, if we are wise enough, will come after. There is no cause more urgent than to survive to eliminate on a global basis the growing threats of nuclear war, environmental catastrophe, economic collapse and mass starvation. These problems were created by humans and can only be solved by humans. No social convention, no political system, no economic hypothesis, no religious dogma is more important.

The hard truth seems to be this: We live in a vast and awesome universe in which, daily, suns are made and worlds destroyed, where humanity clings to an obscure clod of rock. The significance of our lives and our fragile realm derives from our own wisdom and courage. We are the custodians of life’s meaning. We would prefer it to be otherwise, of course, but there is no compelling evidence for a cosmic Parent who will care for us and save us from ourselves. It is up to us.

I've been spending a lot of time on Fallout 4 in the last month or so. Played it a bit over Christmas last year but never bought it until recently. Picked up a used copy for cheap after girlfriend brought over her xbone and big rear end tv. Haven't played the sim in too long, need to fire that up and start running practice sessions or get in on a race series.

The amount of poo poo that is thrown away at our site is just stupid. Especially around this time of year when they're trying to burn through the remainder of the yearly budget and everyone gets new poo poo. Some will be donated but most is scrapped, I have some of the maintenance guys keeping an eye out for specific things for me.

This is what I've been doing as well. Wait for a steam sale or a used copy to pop up cheap at the local used game/book store then play it. By then most bugs are fixed. Can't remember the last game I bought right away. Last game I pre-ordered was spore...I learned my lesson there.

I'm internally debating whether I should keep my 360 or sell it. I haven't fired it up even once in like 6 months.

Between my sister and I, we have a couple of PS2s lying around somewhere, I should hook one up to my fancy new TV and delve into the massive amount of titles I never got around to playing, because I didn't have a PS2 back when it was hot poo poo. Bonus for being able to play PS1 games natively, too.

There's a local record/books/games store with monthly sales that start out at $12 per item, $100 for 10 and reduces the price every day until it's $1.50 each and like 50 for $15. They usually have a small selection of PS1 and PS2 games.

The only type of game I'll play on my smartphone are the goofy time-wasting puzzle games, and then only to kill time when I'm in a waiting room or something. There is no way I'd ever try to play any sort of action or 'real' game on my phone, screen is just too small.

I don't watch movies on my phone either, and don't really understand how anyone can get any enjoyment out of watching a movie on such a tiny screen.

Computer Architecture is an interesting class, I enjoyed it. Mine was taught by a Saudi guy who used to basically sprint out the door when we took a break halfway through the 2-hour class; he'd run outside and smoke half a clove cigarette, stub it out and come back inside to finish teaching the class. I chose him as my master's thesis advisor because he was easy-going and his work was close-ish to my topic, but I regretted it when he disappeared for a whole summer and didn't answer any emails.

It's not the first day, we're a few weeks in. I already know how to do everything that we've done so far, but I have no idea how someone who did stuff like going outside instead of reading computer books would be able to even pass this class, the assignments are not that easy and the lecture only rarely drifts over to the class material and there's no textbook or supplied readings.

I picked up a 3DSLL last year and certainly did not regret it. The resolution is a little janky but the cheap games make up for it. I also bought a PS Vita to try that whole thing out too but something about the size and shape makes my hands hurt.

My class was the same. The first test was about designing logic gates, the second was all about coding in assembly, and the last one was about memory mapping.

We covered very little of that in class, especially the assembly. It took a lot of time just staring at x86 documentation to figure anything out.

My morfar (mothers father) died two days ago.

He had this hunting cabin/vacation home that he really loved. He'd show pictures of it all the time, and it was his little treasure. He was up there, alone, when he had breathing problems and chest pains. He called 911 himself and they sent an ambulance. Since the cabin was quite remote, it took the ambulance a good bit to get there, and when they arrived he was dead. Heart attack.

Now, on the one hand, he died being at his beloved cabin albeit not actually hunting at the very moment, so one could make a case for him "dying doing what he loved" so to speak.

On the other hand, I keep thinking about him, alone, possibly realising he's going to die. And that makes me sad.

And I don't know why I wrote this, but that's how the internet works I guess.

Lotta loss in AI this week.

My best friend from high school lost her husband and yesterday was the viewing. Dude was my age, lived a very similar life to me, was a wild gearhead and walked away from a half dozen wrecks while legally racing. They just had a kid 8 months ago. Literally thousands of people came to the viewing that they had to pull out a second guestbook. I'm feeling like, why am I still standing when this universally beloved man and father is gone.
