Because I hate myself I went and checked Filip Forsberg's stats and uh what's going on with him? Yeah it seems like he is getting unlucky with his shooting percentage (3%) but his shot totals are down as well (on pace for about 200 SOG, or about 50 less than last season).

It's not like the Preds aren't scoring either, their offence is 8th in the league right now. Everyone is contributing, but no one line is particularly effective. Strange.

Something weird is happening where the East isn't the West's open sewer this year. At least... for now it isn't. I've heard several talking heads say that it has to do with how Eastern teams are riding the wave of change towards faster teams. Honestly, it probably has more to do with the fact that more of the garbage teams in the league came from the east and those teams now have decent young teams that are able to make a good account for themselves whereas the better Western teams are older and slowing down.

Is there any correlation at all between performance in a season series and a playoff series between the same two teams?

Penguins beat the Bruins all three times in the regular season, Bruins swept Pittsburgh in the ECF.

xzzy posted:Is there any correlation at all between performance in a season series and a playoff series between the same two teams? Almost certainly not. I read something once that said performance over the last ~25 games of the season as opposed to the full season's results was the best indicator of which team would win the cup. The result of a game played early in the season between two teams has essentially no predictive power with regards to future matchups.

xzzy posted:Is there any correlation at all between performance in a season series and a playoff series between the same two teams? Not much from what I've seen. Playoff hockey is its own monster, and teams can be fairly different depending on when they played during the regular season.

His shot attempts are down too. He's on pace for 282 attempts when last year he had 351. I'm guessing it's all Subban's fault. edit: loving hell Ovechkin had 1024 shot attempts in 2008-09. People point to his 2007-08 year as his best because he scored 65 goals but he scored 56 goals the following year while shooting only 10.6%.
