The controversy is that Henrik Lundqvist is getting to the age where goaltenders start to decline hard and he will be making $8.5M against the cap for several more years. He'll likely still be an above average goalie for a year or two but his best years are almost surely behind him and he will be an anchor on the team's cap soon enough. At least this is what I hope happens.
