They both stink now.

Maybe Jack Johnson and David "Yeah, there's a David" Savard stole their hockey in some sort of Space Jam scenario.

Really though, I am very very happy with how the Wild are doing this year. I am ecstatic, but the playoffs are when it matters. The CBJ Wild battle is shaping up to be a total doozy.

His mellow guitar strumming has really brought the room together. The other Jack Johnson was such a flake. This one makes banana pancakes.

I'm legit concerned about Maatta.

Everytime you read about him, it's "he's been working on his skating".

That's an awesome work ethic to have, but... he's not getting better (aka back to where he was his rookie year).

So if Dumoulin is hurt that leaves the only healthy 'regular' Pens defensmen as Cole-Schultz... our third pairing going into the season.

e: that being said, justin schultz has been amazing so far this year, especially this past month.

Keep going north or maybe cut towards the east and it'll get even better and you'll hate yourself for ever spending time in Ohio.

West works too but skip through Indiana and Illinois and aim for Wisconsin if you head that direction.

justin schultz's hot streak is certainly something else, he has more points in december than any skater besides crosby and malkin (well, almost - panarin is tied with him). it's really fun to watch and i've been rooting for the guy since he was traded to pittsburgh, but i'm kind of expecting it to all come crashing down for him at any moment. even if the rest of the penguins' defense is dead he's still probably in a better situation than he ever was in edmonton though, given the coaches and forwards around him.

Petry is similar in that he's having a breakout considering he missed a bunch of games, and it's probably got to do with not playing on a team that could charitably be described as "garbage can set on fire".

Based on Tuesday's practice in Voorhees, left winger Taylor Leier will likely replace the injured Michael Raffl on the Flyers' top line Wednesday in St. Louis.

In other developments from practice:

Center Sean Couturier, who hasn't played since Nov. 22 in Florida because of a knee injury, had travel issues and wasn't at practice. GM Ron Hextall said he was hopeful he returns to the lineup Wednesday.
Coach Dave Hakstol said he will keep Brayden Schenn at center for the time being.
Defenseman Nick Schultz, a healthy scratch the last 22 games, will likely return to the lineup Wednesday and replace Brandon Manning.
Goalie Michal Neuvirth had his first full practice since sustaining a knee injury; he will make the three-game road trip but probably won't be ready to play.
Right winger Jake Voracek missed practice because of what the team called a maintenance day. He will be in the lineup Wednesday.
Winger Matt Read (oblique injury) participated in practice. He will also make the road trip but is not likely to play until the Flyers return home Jan. 4 against the New York Rangers.
Defenseman Mark Streit (shoulder) practiced Tuesday but said he needs more time before he is ready to play. He will make the trip to St. Louis, San Jose and Anaheim.

we're puttin' the band back together
Are the blue jackets this year's "bad team that is unsustainably good for a short time" or are they legit? I remember enjoying hearty laughs at the Leafs and Wild, in recent years, for being good until about now despite every fancy stat pointing out how a correction was coming hard, and did.
