Hey, gently caress you. No matter how hosed and cheesy it may seem now, that exact issue of New Mutants is what got me into comics in the first place. Well, that and the bit where the Asian chick psi-clocks the sand-worm. It's the same arc. Oh, and Illyana is a demon-type-thing.

I also had that very issue. But even as a kid I was vaguely aware of a lot of creepy stuff going on under the surface. Weird animal/mutant kissing, people getting turned into faeries, Magik chained up to a wall in a bikini doing her portrait of Dorian Grey impression. Creepy.
