In interesting news, "Square have shipped over 300,000 copies of [Blavery Default Fairy] in Japan thus far, and that actual sales figures should hit 300k by the end of the month". A sequel is being hinted, but still no news on a localization.

In related news, that weird Tosochu (run away from agents) game remains firmly in the top 20 with actual sales now topping 400,000 (BDFF's long sunk out of view), and I think Japan Victor's Kobito Zukan just dropped out of the top 30 with actual sales over 300,000 units.

We live in weird times.

He's really dumb, but I'll take affectionate friendliness over that.

20,000's probably too low. 3DSXL's MSRP is 18,900 yen, and the game is 6,300, so more in the neighborhood of 25,000 yen. (I haven't seen any of these special units get deeply discounted.)

It's been around 150-ish for each outing.
I tried the demo, but it's just not for me. They took out the "hunger" parameter, so there's no need to economize on fuel.

But having been burned by the Famicom 3 and 4's penchant to lose save files (which they kindly announced at the loading screen with the "curse" sound effect), I've learned to always keep two save files going.

Someone obviously mislabeled/mistranslated the "LAST NAME" and "FIRST NAME" tags.
In Japanese, the family name comes first, then the given name, so the name input sequence would've been to enter the last name, and then the first name.
By mislabeling those two text entry windows, you get reversed names.

No QA at all, I guess.

Well, it's about time.
I'd so far managed to resist the urge to throw twenty bucks at it to get it on my dinky little NA 3DS so I could play it on my JP XL instead.
The wait was justified.

Tomodachi Collection was a multimillion seller on DS. It's like a Mii-based Animal Crossing, but with more character-to-character interaction based on personality traits, preferences, etc. It featured properly synthesized speech (possible because JP text is all phonetic), which likely would've been impossible to localize. I keep meaning to play it, but I don't have the time (it's sitting in my ever-growing pile of bought new and never played games dating back to Fire Emblem Thracia 576 on SFC).

Actually, it depends on the game. For the longest time, Pokemon localizations went almost entirely through me.
People'd wait for my J-to-E text, and then do German, French, etc., based on my English.
It made for a lot of schedule juggling--in order to get games out faster, we'd identify the system text and do those first so QA work can proceed, and get other language translators working.
Now, I understand Pokemon translates from the JP up into all languages, but that's not always the case.

It's odd that Hori's not selling their "new & improved" screen protectors outside Japan.
They're air-permeable, so trapped bubbles gradually disappear.

Also, my mom plays her DSiXL exclusively for playing sudoku.
Her screen protector is fuzzy and worn in a perfect 9 x 9 grid pattern.

Also, have people already forgotten the uproaor over the raised bezel of the original 3DS which caused scuffs to appear on the top screen? (I even managed to scuff my XL's top screen with the bezel by carrying it around stuffed in an ammo bag along with my camera, keys, phone, etc.)

Also, my dog got jealous and slapped my top screen when I didn't give him attention.
That put a long scratch on the protector.

For wifi play, you can play against friends (registered Friend Codes) or randoms (though I have no idea if people still play online, if ever), and voice chat can be used.
It also has download play so one copy's all you need to play with a gathering of people with four DSs.

I just bought Bugs vs. Tanks, a Guild 02 title from Level 5 from the JP e-shop.
It's made by Keiji Inafune (Megaman series, Dead Rising, etc.).
Being a download title, its weirdly basic in a lot of ways (like the terrain modeling and graphics are plainly terrible), but also neat and engrossing in the way the tanks are presented.
There's a good selection of WW2 tanks, starting with Panzerkampfwagen 3L, and it appears as if you can find a new tank every mission.
The three I've gotten so far are significantly worse than the Pz3, though: some crappy Italian job, and a pair of hilariously awful Japanese tanks.
The game system is a top view tank game where you take on bugs like ants, bees, etc., in their native environments (you've been shrunken in size).
The game play part of it is pretty basic--you just point your tank at an enemy, and your gunner automatically fires, although it does take time for the gun to reload.
I wouldn't want to pay full retail for this. but for 800 yen, it's better than just okay for me. (Also, L5 is having a half off every DL title in Japan for a couple weeks, so I only paid 4 bucks. Money well spent.)

Picross e-3's offical JP site

1. 150 puzzles from the usual 5x5 beginner ones to the 10x10 and 15x15 types.
There's also a Mega Picross mode replacing Micross from e-2.
Like all other e-series titles, none of the puzzles require any guesswork. (The harder puzzles still take me around 15 minutes each.)
I love the earlier releases and blip through them in around a week.

2. Mega Picross mode: Any number clue has to straddle two lines and be touching continuously (see the examples).
Number clues can't be touching (except diagonally).

3. All puzzles can be played in Free Rule mode, so you don't get penalized for mistakes.

I wish there was a bigger selection of tanks. I also wish there were tank destroyers, but it's only real tanks with rotating turrets.

You get a Tretta piece for beating Pokemon in battle (not sure if you're guaranteed a win), so I'm assuming pieces are at least a hundred yen each.
Went looking on Amazon Japan and discovered "Master Class" and "Legend Class" (read "rare") Trettas going for as high as 7300 yen (73 bucks!).
With X & Y pushing the Pokemon count to well over 800, collecting all of them at even 100 yen each would top 800 bucks.
