I just have to say that the Unicorn armour @ 17:30ish disturbs me with its terrible perspective. I am pretty sure that that classroom is just a stock image used in every anime ever. Instead of just going "you know what, we've had the same appearance for the last 2 games for Femshep, why not just keep that one?" Also she appeared on none of the box art. And the Blue Skinned Alien Space Babes are practically all either mercenaries or strippers. Mass Effect was more a game where you can play a girl (but obviously canonically Shepherd is a man because pfft girls being the heroes) rather than a Girl Game.

But if she's not in high heels, how will you know she's a girl? I stand by my theory that Other M was a Galactic Federation ploy to discredit Samus for...some reason or other. Edit: Also hmm. To do Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble for this thread or not, hmm. Has the (dis)advantage of being a blind run. Hillarious failure ahead!

You can't prove she isn't! (I also have a female model for Heavy and Medic. But those are not quite as canon)

None of the nailchat explains why they are seethrough. At least the toe-nails became opaque once you painted them. I do not understand those nail layouts at all. My nails have THREE sections to them. A white bit at the base, then the pink alive bit. Then the dead bit that you cut at the end.

That'd kind of make sense. But did the artist not have toes or fingertips to look at and go "Huh. That's kind of opaque. Not see through. Evidently this bothers me a lot more than it should. Perhaps I am hoping that by being able to comprehend this one little facet of the convoluted mess the rest of 'girl games' will start to make sense? Edit You can rip the entire nail out. It hurts like hell and bleeds rather a lot. Don't fall off bridges and catch your nail, kids! I would guess, thinking about it more, that the pink bit is the bit pressed against skin still, so has pink flesh behind it, while the protruding bit that you cut just has clear air behind it. Still, playing with various backgrounds around the room, my own nails don't let enough light through to change colours. Veloxyll fucked around with this message at 15:25 on Jan 20, 2014 |

Specialised parts have always been my main complaint about specialised sets. Aside from the figurines themselves, that set actually looks pretty decent for a block set. Given that those windows (and, I assume, the door) are the same design as the ones I had 20 years ago, this looks pretty decent for a starter block set. Also, there's a cat included in the set. Your argument is invalid. That sausage on a plate is going to get lost the first time anyone plays with the set though. Edit: Sure, it could be less "this is for girls" and you can argue about the specific colour arrangement of the blocks till you're blue in the face (whether or not the roofing tiles should've been red, for instance), but it's still a pretty solid set overall. (and yes, I built houses. As well as space ships and whatnot) I used to get mad at the Pirate and Knight sets especially for their specialised parts. But again, years ago. The slanted roof pieces are GREAT for making spaceships. That set only has a handful of specialist parts though, so you can just build whatever. (also, the old buckets I remember had suggestions for what you can build on them)

Ms Hale does a much better job of the VO with Femshep. Then again, so did people who didn't check the other voices in SR2. I would love to see if random character generation, or some reedy black guy/girl changes the ratio at all. Edit: that includes people missing out on the british male voice mind you. EVE did have pretty amazing character customisation. Followed by your ships being super-generic mass produced clones, which was a bit odd. This was a few years ago, so they might've updated ship cosmetics since I played. Or well, mostly face creation now that I think on it. I usually play as a girl despite being not a girl IRL. Part of this comes from really liking Night elfs in Warcraft 3, and well. I have complained a LOT about the faces of male Night elfs. I still complain about it. Though I did eventually find one passable male face. Generally though I play a girl because well. This is escapist fantasy. If I can be a wizard who rides a dragon and saves the world repeatedly, being a girl doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. Sometimes though, the outfits make me feel super uncomfortable (AUGH WHY WOULD YOU GIVE ME 3/4 LENGTH PANTS. YOU MONSTERS)

It's a freeing experience. I also get super tempted to wear a skirt to work one day. And just count the annurisms (I work with a lot of 60+ year old men). Oh man, if only tomorrow were 'STRALYA day. I'd do it just on principle. I still could. As for in games, I really do enjoy how Saints Row doesn't judge. Voice sets are completely detached from biological gender. Which is also detached from clothing choices. I can play dressup however I drat well want. Edit: I did go looking for a site, but hindisght tells me it's going to need a video update, not screenshots. Veloxyll fucked around with this message at 05:29 on Jan 24, 2014 |

They already had suitable textures from doing male torsos (since they are able to be topless in public) so it's just a copy paste job of the textures. Plus it probably got weird doing your render tests to make sure it looks right and then have this untextured blob in the middle.

Devious Vacuum posted:The other day I got a very important message on Ask.fm, and that person convinced me to make a clarification for this thread: From my personal life outside the internet, I get the occasional person who thinks I'm a girl because I have long hair pony tailed up. Strangely, it put a bee under my bonnet more when it was 3 separate groups of kids in one day, than the two older gentlemen who have gotten my gender wrong. I've also noticed, with my brother's children, that his daughters told his son that he can't play with some of the toys, they're for girls (they were like 5-8 at the time). It gets very temping to o into a feminist rage when that happens. Which also bugs me with lady outfits in even non-girl games. I had to stop playing Loren: Amazon Princess because every time I saw the outfits I could not help but scream WHYYYYYYY. And then of course there's my 17 y/o co-worker who, while being at what I'd call "healthily thin to average" build and weight, described herself as curvy. And bemoans 'having' to shave her legs. And has other patterns of thinking that summon parts of my feminist rage muscles twitch in agitation. And there's always the niggling feeling of "Should I say something. Or is that jerkish and judgemental and controlling. Just like the status quo." That said, I still want to wear a skirt to work one Saturday. Just to see how long it takes for someone to say something if nothing else. For maximum confusion and disjunction posted:In the 90s I was a teenager growing up in a small country town in Australia. It's easy to forget how isolating that can be if you don't really fit in, considering for example that the Internet wasn't really much of a thing yet. It took me a while to figure out that you meant Daria is a female version of you. Not that you were a female Daria. I should really get to work on making an update for this thread.
