Only through types. So all fire moves are special (which thankfully key off of Flareon's 110 Special, which isn't TOO bad. Really making its Special Defense 110 instead of its Special Attack is what killed it in later gens.)

Best solution is probably just enabling Democracy in times of hard puzzles after the default stream settings prove unworkable. I mean, we got through Cut. We got through The Ledge. We even beat Gio. We don't need some vote system holding our hands for maximum efficiency every time a minor setback happens.

Now, if we fail a million times in a row? Then the option should appear. But only then.

It's not about efficiency, it's about observing the psychology of internet hivemind. They could have shoved for anarchy and gotten it back just as fast if not faster, but the start9 spam is a childish behavior borne only out of the desire to have it their way and only their way even if it deliberately hinders all progress.

"It's your turn to play with the truck for five minutes? WELL I'LL FIND A WAY TO RUIN THOSE FIVE MINUTES FOR YOU INSTEAD OF WAITING EVEN FIVE loving MINUTES."

See again: US Government Shutdown.

Not trying to ruin anyone's fun with all the serious words, but if this is really a social experiment, that's one of the most interesting parts about it.

I actually think you're making a pretty interesting point! I think its more that people feel the issue was forced onto the stream, though, and they basically rebel in order to say they aren't happy with it. Start9's just the most flashy and attention-grabbing way when compared to, say, thudding into a wall or pressing A at thing air.

Less a desire to not share and more just denying an option they hate. Still kinda childish and it brings the stream to a halt, but so does the incredibly slow vote speed. At this point its usually just best to let the "arguments" simmer away and wait for the stream to re-unify.

Eh, seeing thousands of people doing that is awesome when we're talking precision puzzles. When we're talking the overworld it just seems . . . slow. Especially because without the need for precision anarchy gets the same result, but with more moving parts on the screen and potential for fun.

I liked how Black and White did it best--you had one smug nerd rival who thought himself better than you and a friendlier rival in Bianca who you were always one step ahead of. I wish they'd go as far as to have an outright douchebag rival again, but Black and White worked perfectly fine. In my dream Pokemon game, you'd have two rivals like that, and the smug one beats you to being Pokemon champion like Gary did...but then you beat him, and the friendly rival who's always been behind you strolls up, and has to fight YOU.

I find with X and Y, players with Calem as a rival tended to hate the Friend Squad way more than players with Serena. I gather that Calem is a total chump. They really, really dropped the ball with those guys, though. Shauna and Trevor were irksome and while I liked the idea of a kid who wants to make a Pokemon dance team, Tierno's nicknames for everyone made him the most obnoxious dude.

Serena's just robotic and bland. Despite having the exact same lines, Calem just comes off as a smug prick. He's always a step behind, but still acts like he's the Best Around. Its like Blue, but without anything that shows Blue to be a success and with way less charisma.

Gen 3 had tons of interesting locations but spent way too much of the second half of the game in Surf mode. Brendan and May were pretty awful as rivals though. Other than those gripes easily my favorite of the series.

Honestly, the circumstances that set TPP up seem like they're once-in-a-lifetime and I doubt we'll ever have as good of a game again. If we didn't release AbbyK and she learned some good moves like Slash and Flamethrower, we'd have almost no reason to use anything else. If Bird Jesus didn't have such an awful moveset, he could have easily soloed the game. If terrible AI didn't give Fonz, Lord Helix, and ATV time to shine, they would've just been more members of the backup crew with Air. Hell, if Zapdos didn't come at level 50, who knows what other underlevelled Pokemon would have been slotted in. Keeper, maybe?

The fact that we clawed our way through the worst possible circumstances was very impressive, but with how easy it is to pick a starter and mash A until victory it just doesn't strike me as happening again. And what is TPP without the glorious struggle?

Anyway, in my opinion so is TPP is just one of those things that is fun once but not very exciting after that, no reason to overanalyze it more than that. I mean, Pokemon Red hadn't done anything more exciting than struggling with using cut and battling the ledge at this point so it's not like it was significantly more thrilling or anything.

True, but at least the battles were usually tense. Probably because Kanto was full of rocks and status conditions that gave Bird Jesus trouble, or maybe because we kept blowing half of our moves using Whirlwind, but at least there was an element of "will we lose here" with each fight. Here Surf's in slot 1 and its just been Press X To Gator, and that's a lot less thrilling.

That might be why the fanart dropped off too. When he was using leer every turn, it was endearingly ineffective and came with a badass animation. Gator Drowns All The Things just doesn't lend itself to hilarious art as much.

I honestly think ledge citadel is going to fall on first democracy. People aren't even attempting hard parts without it and I think that's what's killing the run along with the gator. Using it for everything that slightly resembles a "challenge" on the overworld map isn't interesting at all. Safari Zone had potential to be pretty hilarious but people gave up right away. Victory road took only a couple hours because "guys seriously we need to get through this with democracy."

Not saying Anarchy is the only way guys!! but it's a lot less interesting when it's not Red or AJ bumbling around somehow reaching the goal of each area. Back in the Rocket Hideout I recall us finishing the spinner maze, and right after the battle someone hit up and everyone lost it because it was hilarious. If anything similar happens now it's loving REDDIT RUINING THINGS AGAIN I BLAME 4CHAN

That and this thread is hilariously negative to anything that springs up. If someone says Bird Jesus unironically it seems they get shouted down or complained at for ruining this pure and important thread with those dirty foul memes.

To be fair, Safari Zone and Victory Road both cost a bunch of in-game resources. Namely money and HP, which are lost each time we mess up. Rocket Hideout was a consequence-free slip-and-slide maze, so the lack of loss made bashing our heads against it a bunch feel less risky.

Still, though, a pretty good point.

This should start at the correct time. I'm impressed that a Gameboy is apparently able to render that.

Overall, I felt this anniversary run was weak and unsatisfying. The sped-up Parasect is a Pokemon that's able to defeat almost anything because of Spore, and once they figured that out it was just a matter of plowing through everything in a straight line.

Man, to think this could've actually been pretty interesting if we didn't happen to catch the one Pokemon the dev souped up into a killing machine.
