The only thing that disappoints me about this game is that they don't run into a Space Wolves squad and we get to watch as the Rookie slowly dissolves into a tirade about how the Codex is law and that they should hew more closely to Rowboat's greatness.

Basically what I'm saying is that most 40k games can be improved by the addition of Space Wolves.

Any chaos demons that show up have a very high chance to be Khornite just because "Big red angry X" is easily identifiable as a demon. Conversely though most of the time the armies of Chaos are lead by Sorcerers, which Khorne does not like in any way.

It gets even weirder when you have Chaos Psykers summoning Khorne demons in the DOW games.

yeah, Astartes bolters are bigger than 'normal' bolters. They've also got more powerful ammunition and I think less recoil reduction because the astartes don't need it.

There are bolters that are usable by normal unmodded human beings they're just rare and expensive.

The Imperium of man uses the realm of chaos as a go-between for their faster than light travel. So it can be faster or slower depending on how Chaos is feeling that day and if their gellar fields are up to snuff. I think one of the Dark Heresy storyteller supplements says "Warp drives travel at the speed the plot needs them to."

Newcrons are supposed to be a lot closer to the Khemri of Warhammer Fantasy, which are a lot less implacable than the Oldcrons, who were basically just a zombie apocalypse with really big guns. That was a high-level decision, so I doubt Ward or any other weirdo they have at GW had much to say about that.

We can still blame him for the Dreadknight though, right?

You clearly don't know just how much they retconned the Necrons! The new ones are astoundingly out-of-character for everything you've ever read about them.

If that's the case I'm surprised they didn't go full on GW and just have a new faction come in and kill off the necrons in universe forcing everyone to use the new codex and buy new models.

Yeah, the Thousand Sons are amongst my favorite traitor legions because 1) Lots of Sorcerers = lots of fun magic and 2) They basically all got universally hosed over Tzneetch being Tzneetch and Ahriman being an idiot. Magnus is the way he is now because Tzneetch literally left him no other choice.

Angron and the world eaters were doomed because the Emperor took a man who wanted to die and forced him to live and then told him to craft a legion in his own image. What precisely did you think was going to happen, man?

I love how it took the Necrons this long to think "Hey, I mean, we've got all this buried tech all over the planet... why don't we just smack some engines on the back?"

It's also somewhat unique in that the AdMech actually salvage alien tech to study it.

To be fair, they're kind of glossing over how monumentally Magnus hosed up.

The Thousand Sons had the largest amount of Psykers of any of the legions, by a fairly large margin. Concidentally, the thousand-sons were also subject to a random mutation known as the flesh change where they would start growing extra arms or turning blue and stuff like that. Unfortunately there was a Flesh Change manifestation during a joint Thousand Sons/Space Wolves operation Russ thought this was because they were Psykers and therefore automatically using Sorcery, when it was more likely it was Tzeench loving with Magnus because that was his favorite hobby at the time. Russ went to the Emperor and told him what was going on, and the emperor held the Council of Nikaea where he tried Magnus in absentia and outlawed the use of Psychic Powers by the Astartes.

Magnus wasn't too happy about this, particularly since at the same time he started having visions of Horus falling to chaos and killing the Emperor. First he tried to shield Horus from the warp psychically, and when that didn't work.. well.

quote:

To a colossus of such psychic power and personal vanity as Magnus, using a succession of intermediaries as communicators (the normal method of galactic communication) seemed too slow and unlikely to be convincing enough; Magnus was, after all, about to tell the Emperor that his favourite son and chief lieutenant aimed to overthrow him. So, to Magnus, the most obvious thing to do was to use his abilities to appear directly to the Emperor, not only allowing the essential truth of his news to be communicated, but also showing his father how skilled he was and how right he was to advocate the use of the complex psychic techniques that (to Magnus) lesser minds referred to as sorcery. Magnus therefore undertook a great psychic journey, transmitting his astral self into the very Warp, breaching a conduit of the Eldar Webway (unknowingly allowing daemons to enter behind him), and finally forcing open and passing through the very gate of the nascent Imperial Webway itself, appearing in astral form in the Imperial Dungeon. This action, which Magnus believed would vindicate him in the eyes of the Emperor, had damned him. By using psychic techniques, he had betrayed the wishes of the Emperor, and his very actions betrayed the Emperor's hopes. Not only had Magnus's breaching of the Webway and the Imperial Gate to it irrevocably damaged the technology, killed thousands in related accidents and psychic flashpoints and left the Imperial Palace open to warp intrusion, but his choice and manner of doing so had forever removed him from the Emperor's plan to crown Magnus himself upon the Golden Throne, to act as guardian and guide to Humanity as they moved into the Webway. As the Emperor turned to regard Magnus sadly, the Primarch of the Thousand Sons achieved horrified understanding of this doom in an instant, and vanished.

Russ tried to contact Magnus to bring him in without a fight but Magnus had intentionally blocked all communication to the planet so that his men wouldn't get advance warning of the attack and try and fight back. Ahriman found out about this, realized that the Thousand Sons were damned if they did and damned if they didn't. So he countermanded Magnus' order and started attacking the Space Wolves in orbit.

Basically Tzeench really REALLY wanted his own pet Space Marine legion and Ahriman is an amazingly stupid individual.
