I once read about a baby elephant that got stuck in quicksand so a bunch of hyenas just casually ate its entire face while it was still alive and it didn't die for hours and hours. I was like, oh hey a political cartoon

From humans down to even insects there are examples of animals that do pointlessly cruel things. They serve no benefit to aggressor, and the victims pose no danger to them either. Its really quite the enigma. The difference of course is that a human is capable of understanding that what it is doing is stupid and they're just a tremendous dick.

Some Russians used selective breeding to domesticate a species of arctic fox a decade or two ago, they're pretty cute. Turns out breeding for placidity and tolerance of humans makes ears go floppy and fur turn spotted. Everyone was kind of surprised by that particular side effect. They're nice pets, cost like 10000$ a piece or so, though.

Yeah there are domesticated foxes. You can get some pretty exotic pets but really, dogs are man's best friend for a reason. If you want a pet that doesn't cost a fortune and won't suck just get a friendly little dog.
