Australians should prepare for more anti-terror raids: AFP chief

Australians should prepare for more counterterrorism raids as big as the recent 800-strong police raids in Sydney and Brisbane, the Australian Federal Police's counterterrorism chief has said.

Federal police Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan said police did not engage in "overkill" in September's Operation Appleby raids that involved 800 police officers, but led to only two people being charged.

"What we will see now is more raids like we saw in Sydney because the environment has changed," Mr Gaughan said.

"The paradigm has changed such that we will be forced to react much quicker than what we previously have, and I think the community will see more of this where we will do a large number of execution of search warrants and probably only one or two arrests."

Mr Gaughan said police made no apologies for the raids, including the seizure of a reportedly plastic sword. The sword wasn't plastic and was a "legitimate weapon", Mr Gaughan said.

The comments came during a terrorism-focused Q&A in which Attorney-General George Brandis said he did not regret stating that "people have a right to be bigots" at the height of debate about watering down the Racial Discrimination Act.

I recall reading somewhere that filtering actually makes motorcyclists safer, but I don't remember what the source was. The reasoning was basically that moving through stationary traffic puts potential danger in front of the bike were the rider can react to it.

Filtering is done at stop lights and allows motorcycles (with their superior acceleration) to put themselves in front of traffic and then away when the lights change. Because its not terribly clear until you've rode a motorbike in traffic just how important and safer it is to not be in amongst cars. Being trapped in traffic with several tons of speeding metal driven by distrated drivers who dont have the situational awareness they claim or should have, with blind spots the size of whole cars and the ever present "I didnt see the motorcyclist officer" thought running about your head.

When an accident happens with cars, its expensive, when it happens with motorbikes, its regularly fatal.

Simple solution, let bikes get away from the cars where they are densest, at the lights.

Various SE Asian countries have a Bike Box in front of the car stop line for this even.

Dr David Pascoe BVSc PhD OVH Repro
A CALL FOR NATIONAL UNITY: PLEASE STEP UP AND SAVE OUR OWN PEOPLE AND PROTECT OUR OWN NATION.

We have made the difficult decision to attach a link to a programme made by Al Jazeera on the drought in Queensland.

It was sent to us by Bob Katter late last night, and after viewing it, we forwarded it on to Dr Alex Douglas, MP of Gaven, who also cares deeply for the people of the bush.

All of us have been left devastated by the program, which is first and foremost a brilliant piece of old fashioned journalism, no matter where in the world it came from.

My wife Heather grew up not far from where it was filmed, and she lived through the Old Man Drought of the 1960’s as a little child and later, the Big Drought of the 1980’s running their family station after her father passed away.

She has been inconsolable in her grief all night at what is being done to these people.

It seems that an extraordinary piece of journalism has finally forced us all to dig deep into our souls.

We therefore ask two things of you: that those of you who are living in drought do not watch this, because it will do nothing at for your mental wellbeing.

As you know, we believe in the positive and we sincerely believe that a really big wet season is building up.

Secondly, we ask that every single person on our Facebook site sends this to the Prime Minister, Premiers and Cabinet Ministers of both State and Federal Governments demands urgent action.

Please send it to every single person you call aa friend and ask them to do the same.

We have a reach of 135,000 on this FB page, and if every person sends it to ten people that’s 1.350,000 million people. That’s what they call political clout.

We have reached a point in our history as a nation when we can no longer stand back and watch the destruction of our own people.

The media is now telling us that the Free Trade agreement that is set to be pushed through by the Abbott Government this week will effectively allow China to buy up everything they want.

That’s Canberra for you: they have no idea what is being done to our people, and they don’t care, same as Comrade Campbell Newman doesn’t care. As long as the figures add up, as long as the spin is good enough, they believe they can get away with it.

Prime Minister Abbott was interviewed on Alan Jones this morning and he made it very clear that he thought farmers have the right to take the best price - and if that's a Chinese offer, then so be it.

It would seem that our Prime Minister is not a patriot and doesn't care are who owns our magnificent country - as long as he still has the job.

Well, we think the time has come to say enough, and actually stand up and do something about it.

Please step up as Australians and use all the technology we have and all people power we can to stand up to protect our own people and defend our own nation.

Tell the politicians of Australia what you think, and demand that they listen.

You are their masters, remember, and they are your servants. Make them understand that message for once and for all.

So go and hit the send button, and make sure you tell them what you think about the treatment of our people in drought, mining our prime farmland - and selling us out to China just for good measure.

Regards

David
