Yes, friends, it is that time again. We've come to the end of another year, and that means it's time to recognize the best--and the worst--of professional wrestling for the year 2014. In case there's any confusion, this thread covers the calendar year; that means our voting period is January 1, 2014 - December 31, 2014. Please, please, please, DO NOT POST YOUR BALLOT IN THIS THREAD All awards have the option to give a first, second, and third place vote. You do not have to give all three, but the option is there if you want to. Five points will be awarded for a first place vote; three for a second, and two for a third. Additionally, this was a bit of an issue last year, and I imagine it will be again this year, so I'm going to come right out and say it: NXT and WWE are the same company. A vote for NXT is the same as a vote for WWE. So if your ballot for Best Promotion goes: 1. NXT 2. WWE 3. ROH Then five points will be awarded to WWE, two will be awarded to ROH, and I will make a mental note that you don't follow directions well. The bottom line is this: NXT is not a company. It's a show. There's a weekly show called NXT, and they've had a few major shows as well. You can feel absolutely free to vote for NXT for best weekly show, or for any of the NXT specials for best major show. That's fine. But don't go voting for NXT as best promotion expecting that to be counted as anything other than a vote for WWE. You can email your votes to TheWrestleHutAwards at gmail dot com. Voting is open from now until the end of the day on January 24. Results will be posted on January 25. Please use this ballot: quote:Username:

No dude, it's the shittiest thing they did, doesn't have to be a promotional tactic. From CM Punk being fired on his wedding day to Sting showing up to NXT not firing CJ Parker, the possibilities for this category are limitless! EDIT: and no, those three examples aren't what I put down, but now I'm regretting not having one of them being NXT not firing the poo poo out of CJ Parker

WOTY values kayfabe accomplishments. Bryan did enough in half a year to compete, if not win. Worst Match of the Year: Lethal Lockdown (3-9-2014) - HOW DO YOU gently caress UP WAR GAMES? Don't forget Michael Elgin for Best/Worst Promos. I honestly can't decide which.

I'd like to stump for a worthy candidate for Most Improved, under Big Daddy Yum Yum of course, in Jack Swagger. This year, he really had a chance to shine in his feud with Rusev. In those matches, he showed major improvement not only in his brawling style, but in his ability to play babyface and get crowds behind him. In short: Big Daddy Yum Yum for most improved, and Jack Swagger second or third.

I'm making the case of Tomoaki Honma for Most Underpushed. A last-minute replacement for an injured Kota Ibushi in the G1 Climax, and didn't have a bad match, or even a mediocre match, for the entire tournament, yet didn't get a single win.

beggar posted:He over sold chops from Kojima and got booked again He was only booked once n the same tour as Michael Tarver. They were the only NWA guys not brought back, not counting Chase Owens. Yum Yum was a terrible wrestler and over sold Kojima chops and after one match he was carried more compared to the other match. So Dave Meltzer said that Yum Yum improved after one match in Japan, which is a hilarious statement. I'm going to suggest that Rusev has improved over a year since he was called up. Originally he was boringly generic and had kind of bland matches. Then he started getting quicker in the ring and started showing how great at selling he was.

The chops were actually in the second match after his massive improvement. Big Daddy Yum Yum's first match in Japan (New Beginning Hiroshima): quote:5. Satoshi Kojima pinned Big Daddy Yumyum (Byron Wilcott) in 11:04 to retain the NWA heavyweight title. Yumyum came across like a minor league guy, like a very green indie guy. He’s tall, billed at 6-foot-6. Bruce Tharpe got a ton of heat at ringside as the American NWA rep. Yumyum’s big spot is a one armed Bruno Sammartino style backbreaker over the shoulder. Kojima won with the lariat. *1/2 His second (New Beginning Osaka): quote:5. Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat Big Daddy YumYum & Michael Tarver in 12:54 in a match to determine the No. 1 contenders for NWA tag team champions Rob Conway & Jax Dane. Tharpe has really become a great cartoon character like heel manager. He’s not Jim Cornette of the 80s, but does a lot of the same type of mannerisms and overacting around ringside, and has great facials. YumYum showed improvement already after just one match in Japan. He sold Kojima’s million chops in the corner very different from everyone else, to the point it got notice after. He also did Mongolian chops on Kojima, right in front of Tenzan and that got great crowd heat. He used a pump handle into a stomach block for a near fall and a one armed Bruno Sammartino backbreaker again, although he dropped him clumsily. Kojima & Tenzan came back with a 3-D on Tarver, Kojima hit YumYum with a lariat and Tenzan then made Tarver tap out to the Anaconda vise. Kojima & Tenzan did a post-match promo telling Tharpe to have Conway & Dane bring those titles back here to Japan. Tharpe tried to go after them but had to be held back. **1/4 This isn't a joke guys. Just think about how awesome he could be with another tour under his belt.

Oh, and Bruce Tharpe definitely deserves legit consideration for the Best Non Wrestler ballot, his work this year has been fantastic and has really made a mostly mediocre to bad roster of NWA wrestlers (BDYY excepted obv) worth seeing in NJPW for his antics alone. It sucks that Gedo doesn't qualify because he's still a wrestler. Not sure who my third person on the ballot would be in additon to Heyman and Tharpe. Lana or Steph I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00O3gQQY96c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-8evaGG96g Thauros fucked around with this message at 18:06 on Jan 2, 2015 |
