I was reading about that club in Minnesota collapsing on a Theory of a Deadman concert, and aside from the hilarity of it all, it made me think of all those bands like Slipknot, Disturbed, Mushroomhead are for some reason still around. Are their fans people who listened to them in High School and still continue to follow them or are they somehow still attracting new fans?

The high school I teach at has quite a few students who love Disturbed, Linkin Park, etc. in tyool 2015. It's strange to me as Disturbed was always one of my least favorite Nu metal bands. They like those bands, but if you ask them about Korn, Soulfly, Orange 9mm, RAtM, Coal Chamber, Deftones etc. they're like lol gramps take your meds. The only Limp Bizkit they know is Hot Dog because they ran across it on YouTube and 46 fucks are cool and good, I guess. Kirk Vikernes fucked around with this message at 23:24 on Aug 16, 2015 |

I know 2 guys in their late 20s who still fuckin' hero-worship Korn. One's a sadsack dumbass who still posts Flying Spaghetti Monster memes to Facebook in TYOOL 2015 but the other is a pretty successful dude with a hot AF fiancee so I don't know what to think.

pbuh the shithole town i lived in was too small to have an "alternative rock" station in the early aughts so by all accounts i should have been saved from numetal but it still wormed its way in somehow.

I can't really hate nu metal since its the soundtrack to my dumb teenage self but yeah its objectively pretty bad. There's a rock club a couple of towns over that still has the same playlist it had in 2001 and its super fun to roll up a couple of times a year, get piss drunk and scream the words to In the End at each other like you're all 18 again but then you spot the dudes who take it really seriously and still go to work in a Slipknot hoody and a fuckin' wallet chain at age 30 and it gets kinda sad.

It always takes about 20 years for outdated music to become cool again. There will always be a subgroup of young people who will claim that today's music sucks and will jump the gun on that formula and latch on on to the previous decade's music. It's long enough ago that they weren't able to experience it the first time around and recent enough to be thought of as sufficiently uncool to like 'ironically' (at first, anyway). BTW, liking things ironically seems to be a purely 21st century construct. I'm trying to imagine some dudes in the 70's hanging out and listening to Zep and The Who, when in walks their friend wearing a KC and the Sunshine Band t-shirt. Try as he might to explain just how funny it is ("Get it? I'm wearing a shirt of a band I hate! Isn't it hilarious?"), his buds would absolutely tell him to gently caress off until he pulls his head out of his rear end.

Was unaware of the "nu metal" music genre, and so interpreted "nu metal band" to mean some kind of bracelet or manacle forged from advanced polyalloy. Was disappointed.

I'm kinda shocked Mushroomhead's still around. They disappear after an album or two and then try to stay relevant like when they made that confederate battle flag mask.
