It's been a while since I've posted something relevant so here's this. I recently went through Cyhi's latest mixtape (Ivy League Club) and it was good - decent at worst. Here's what I thought was the strongest track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E5hbDzFOo0 Also, to confirm what's already been said - 2 Chainz's album was pretty much poo poo. This is sad news because I wanted him to be something but oh well. Here's what I thought was the best track from the first listen but it's mostly because of the beat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aywfvacW-_I Why the gently caress is Boi-1da biting Lex Luger? He's talented enough to not have to do that, or so I thought? EDIT: Actually I wrote that last sentence before I finished the album. Drumma Boy is doing that same clustered Lex Luger snare or whatever the gently caress. poo poo is annoying.

Main Attrakionz / Green Ova put out a big 20+ song tape on their bandcamp today. The bad part is they want $20 bucks for it. The good part is that it all sounds really good. The beats range from really sparse and spacey to Luger-esque bangers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFyKVDpwW3Q They may wanna chill with the E dealing imagery after what happened the Thizz ent.

So that would make Juicy J a great rapper. YEAH, BITCH! <in my Jesse Pinkman voice> But seriously, I'd love Nardwuar to interview heads of state at this point. His research is insane and his presentation is awesome.

It's kinda depressing to see him chat with rappers who take themselves dead seriously.

Another new track from DaVinci's new album, this one featuring Gibbs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdAWKx1DPko The two sound really good together and that beat is nice. The JJ DOOM album is streaming on pfork. A few songs in and the production is nice and trippy. Doom's sounding good but it always takes me a couple of listens to separate the best Doom verses from the mediocre ones. VV song's pretty good. I LOVE the power metal cover Busta decided he needed. snyprmag fucked around with this message at 20:51 on Aug 16, 2012 |

snyprmag posted:Another new track from DaVinci's new album, this one featuring Gibbs: Nice that's two good tracks from that album so far, can't wait to hear the rest...it should drop within the next month or two. About time, it was originally supposed to be released over a year ago. DaVinci released another track called "Long Way From Home" about a month ago, that I haven't seen posted yet. It's not going to be on the new album, though: original: http://soundcloud.com/swtbrds/long-way-from-home-prod-by-2 remix: http://soundcloud.com/swtbrds/davinci-long-way-from-home-paper-son-remix I like both, but I think the remix is the better one. And to whoever hasn't checked out DaVinci yet, do it, he's underrated as hell in my opinion. If you like those songs, check out his other albums too: The Day the Turf Stood Still (2010), Feast or Famine (2011), and Butter and Gunz (2007). I think Butter and Gunz is his weakest one, but it still has several good songs. Also gotta plug this one song that he did with Big KRIT because it's the poo poo and Big KRIT and DaVinci are also the poo poo and should do more tracks together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWPngWalRNA

Charles Hamilton went crazy again. Released a bunch of mixtapes. Why I love Charles Hamilton, reason 4080 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krzld9ZM998 MTV interview-http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/826098/charles-hamilton-explains-relationship-with-j-cole.jhtml . He said "This conversation is basically me vs. Viacom, so I'm gonna bring Sega into it." ~Classic Hamilton~ There are more parts to the interview. He got so so wild, he cancelled on the Combat Jack podcast the same day. If you aren't listening to the Combat Jack podcast, you missing it. Also, Nas used ghostwriters on his Untitled (N word) album. Nas stay losing. People are trying to downplay it and say everyone gets help but I'm going to say boo to all that. Anyone talking about hiphop is dead and playing preacher in the church of hiphop culture should write his own stuff. Stop lowering the bar.

One could argue that Nas's claim of hip hop being dead was with things such as lyrical content and censorship from labels and orgs. I could be wrong but I'm not so sure that his "hip hop is dead" tirade had anything against ghostwriters. EVERYBODY uses them - as you stated.
