Sutter's said the show is loosely based on Hamlet, and will follow that arc until the very end, so it's pretty much a given that Jax and Clay will hang in there until they meet their demise in the finale. This show is good illustration of why dramatic tragedy only really works in a tight, succinct format like a 2-3 hour stage play or movie -- anything much more than that and the central tragic conflict can't keep building inertia and turns into a mess.

So, will Tara commit suicide then?

Honestly, how many Sons do you guys see standing at the end of this cluster? Also, what's the over/under on Tig being alive at the end of this season? If they leave it on a cliffhanger, so help me I will drive to LA and immolate Sutter.

Really?

That is the same as saying they can't sell drugs because they aren't allowed to own it.

Step 1 Create front company (Clay has done this at least 3 or 4 times on the show)
Step 2 Have front company apply for FFL07
Step 3 License likeness rights to front company to produce SOA guns for you.
Step 4 Collect money from Front Company's sale of firearms.

AT no point are the felons or the gang 'technically' in charge of the company, guns etc but they still reap the profits.

This kind of poo poo happens all the time.

A criminal gang starting up a front company to get a federal fireams license is really pushing the boundaries of "legally," which was sort of the qualifier there. It also means that it isn't anything like saying they aren't allowed to sell drugs because they aren't allowed to own them. Because that is illegal, too.

edit: There is also no reason for them to do this because if they are going to just go into retail and not sell guns to other gangs, there is no reason for them to go into guns at all. Just sell motorcycles or some other random crap.

Well, they're felons on parole, and one of the conditions of their parole is they can't wear gang colors, and yet they haul around wearing their cuts in public like it ain't no thing.

Qassam rockets are literally flying fertilizer bombs. They are some majorly Wile E. Coyote level poo poo, notorious inaccurate, and are the sort of thing used when all you've got at your disposal is a machine shop, some scrap metal and a bunch of fertilizer.

Kornets actually https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9M133_Kornet

Now, to give credit where credit is due. Sutter DID in fact bother to look on wikipedia and see that Hamas has actually used at least one.

HOWEVER, this is like trying to smuggle cigarettes out of a prison. Seriously? loving Gaza? Those 2-3 months for what? To dig another tunnel to Egypt? How about just dealing with the Syrian hookup directly? Or how about just getting some loving HJ-8s?

I think so, but the One-Niners have been brought up in the past, which is another street gang from The Shield. I believe they happen in the same 'world'.

I like when shows do this with some sublety. There was a one-off shot in The Walking Dead of some blue meth, indicating TWD and Breaking Bad also occupy the same universe as far as the story goes.

You can't smuggle guns without a small town motorcycle gang to do the shuffling of products. That trip of a couple hundred miles south is not something people that have smuggled guns through multiple countries halfway around the world could handle. Boats cannot go south.

I know I should dislike a lot more about this show, but this stuff has bothered since forever. I understood it when it was selling guns to other gangs. As soon as it involved foreign countries.. ugh.

I also binged through the show over the past few weeks, and my general impressions are as follows.

Season 1: Okay, cool, this is basically GTA: The TV series. I enjoy the great cast, the creative ridiculousness, and how it often goes against expectations (like having the crooked sheriff and stick-up-his-rear end deputy turn out to be likeable and sympathetic). Plus, Stahl is a great foil.

Season 2: Holy poo poo, Henry Rollins out of nowhere. Zobel is a great villain, the Gemma stuff (and Gemma/Unser relationship) are actually pretty compelling. This is pretty good TV.

Season 3: A mixed bag. The Ireland stuff is pretty dumb and drags on way too long. On the other hand, I almost always hate storylines about babies because babies are boring and an emotionally manipulative macguffin, but the whole thing with Jax and the priest was actually pretty well done. Also holy poo poo, what an amazing finale.

Season 4: Oh sweet, special guest Danny Trejo. Once things get rolling, umm, err, yeah.

Season 5: Facepalm: the TV series.

Just turn your brain off when it comes to gun running on this show. It makes ZERO loving sense.

I can build a fully functional AR15 for $600, the only part the ATF ever need know about is the lower which costs 60 bucks and anyone with an extra CNC machine can make FOR FREE all day long FOREVER. With a machine shop and some extra parts it can be made into the burst fire/full auto M16 clone. Teller Morrow could actually make more money LEGITIMATELY selling SoA branded firearms than doing it illegally.... Imagine the market for being able to buy a Hell's Angel Rifle or Pistol? Harley Davidson AR15 anyone?

With a fully stocked machine shop, anyone that can build a motorcycle could crank out AK47 style rifles for less than 300-400 a pop.

So the fact that they are selling guns to people for $1000 or more each gun is stupid.

Then take into the fact that getting caught with a fully automatic weapon in the United States is a full stop 10 year minimum federal crime regardless of whatever else you're doing. They don't have parole, you can't plea bargain it, it is 10 years PERIOD, oh and using a firearm in the commission of a felony is another 10 years.

Which is why criminals don't bother with fully automatic weapons, one they aren't worth the extra 10 years, and two a semi-auto works just fine.

So right now if you used a fully auto machine gun to rob someone, you're looking at 20 years in jail. Why risk that much jail for such a little money? There is better money in drugs and the sex trade. For the same penalty you could get caught with 10 POUNDS of cocaine twice and only get 5 years for a first offense...

Which is easier to move, hide and turn into money? white powder that can be cut into smaller packages and disbursed to many different people? or a big metal pipe that weighs at least 5 -9 lbs if not more and requires ammo and only one person can use it?

The Sons selling guns vs drugs was always a loving stupid idea.

The Sons had a machine shop/smithing warehouse way back in the glory days of the first season. The Mayans blew it up. Instead of doing the smart thing by quietly rebuilding it and restarting their operations after making peace, the Sons instead went in the complete batshit insane opposite direction because Kurt Sutter.

Can the OP for season 6 just be nothing by the "gently caress YOU KURT SUTTER" sparklee gif bracketed by browalk.gif and sutterfap.gif? That's really all the context you need to understand this show at this point.

You know, I liked this episode... when I thought it was the finale. I was sitting here thinking "Huh, as much as I disliked certain aspects of this season, like Opie's death and the endless ENDLESS chase-with-loud-music montages (which if they'd removed would mean we wouldn't need four 90 minute episodes), that actually ended well. The show is perfectly serviceable when you can binge through it. It's when you're watching it week to week that the storylines drag and the "will they won't they" gets incredibly old. I remember being really sour on S3 until someone gave me the DVDs and I could watch it in big chunks.

Still, nothing can forgive the S4 finale dumbness.

The only moment in this series I actually liked was the random sale of guns to Nero's boys where they were ambushed and all amp'd up about shooting dudes and getting away in a station wagon. Otherwise, everything else (except Opie's death) was very forgettable.

Anyways, Chibs for Pres, everyone else can just piss off. :colbert:
