Also, to be perfectly honest, there are just under 4 million Puerto Ricans in PR according to the last census (I think the real number is at something like 3.95 mil but I'm too lazy to look it up). Pedro Albizu Campos, essentially the most major figure of Puerto Rican nationalism during the 20th century. Spent a lot of time in prison for political views such as actively calling for a revolution, violent or otherwise, to overthrow the Yanqui overlords. Died in prison after being subjected to radiation experiments.

I know a half-Purto Rican girl and she got all kinds of poo poo when she was younger. Like, beat up by dudes 3 years older than her and worse kinda poo poo. She was in one of the most backwards loving places in the country though. Incidently, why are there so relatively many Puerto Ricans in that middle square state? What is over there?

NEED TOILET PAPER posted:Cuss them out in Spanish, make their heads explode. Bonus points if you use a Puerto Rican colloquialism that doesn't exist in any other Spanish dialect. Won't work, they know it pisses me off and the do it jokingly because I am very charming when I get angry. Nowadays I just roll my eyes and tell them "NOT loving NOW" when I am doing stuff. Also according to Wikipedia there are 4,623,716 Puerto Ricans in the states vs 3,667,084 in Puerto Rico itself. Deceitful Penguin posted:Well, coming from white-as-snow Iceland, me being slightly tan meant I got such encouraging remarks as: "Go back to your home" or "So which country are you from?", so I can sorta empathize, but yanks and race is a hell of a thing all in a league of its own. And isn't there something like "White Hispanic" or something like that? Remember there being something about that on a, census? Yes I am officially a white hispanic, but I'd rather be a Puerto Rican but whatever. Also I have no idea why Puerto Ricans started to move to Colorado. Maybe it was a secondary move location after they emigrated/moved to New York? Anyways here is a picture of what Puerto Rican do best Being loud, spilling drinks and being happy.

Deceitful Penguin posted:Ahhh, blame Karl Marx, he cropped it. Is it any good? Demo isn't amazing, but Brian Wood does some cool things in DMZ, which wrapped up not too long ago. It's very political, and a lot of what happens during the story is a reflection of at-the-time events. It's set in the wake of an American civil war, with the backdrop being Manhattan, or the DMZ. The story follows a photojournalist who gets dumped into this DMZ, and starts documenting the conditions people live in, and the various injustices they are subjected to. The comic covers a lot of issues, ranging from the use of PMCs, Halliburton-esque reconstruction companies, daily life in an active warzone, the dangers of embedded journalism and the potential bias and blinds you get from taking sides. The story has its ups and downs, and it could probably stand to be shorter than it is, but I recommend it. An older, and much shorter series of his, Channel Zero, is also worth picking up- it covers some of the same things. Now, DMZ is alright, but real journalistic comic books that should be mandatory reading are Joe Sacco's Palestine, Safe Area Goražde and The Fixer, the two latter ones covering the Bosnian war. E: midnightclimax posted:Also Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, journalistic comics have been on the rise for a couple of years. Ahhh, I hearda Palestine but not them Bosnian ones. Read a lot though, considerin' all the landmark warcrimes committed there. Ya know, I'm just gonna check on this Brian Wood dude the next time I'm in the comic book store and try to stop thinking about the Balkan atrocities. Edit: And them other two too. Honestly though, they mostly stock pretty vanilla stuff. Most political thing I remember seeing there was Red Son and Transmetropolitan. Joe Sacco also put out another book about Palestine, this one about the 56 Suez war and a couple of mass murders that occurred then. Its called "Footnotes in Gaza" and is really interesting. That and Palestine definitely changed my opinion on the whole Israel/Palestine conflict.
