It's always funny when those guys on your school team think practicing layups is silly, then go on to miss easy ones in game situations.

I practiced and drilled jumping off the "right foot" constantly when I was a youngster (I played ALOT of basketball), and I never got to the point where making the correct jump gave me an advantage over going off my dominant leg (my left) and not having to think about it.

I understand there's a bit of an advantage to going off the correct leg, but for me at least, that advantage was completely out weighed by feeling awkward and off balance when I tried to change my footwork. Being able to use either hand effectively on both sides of the basket is much more important then fiddling around with your feet. Slashing to the basket and hitting tough layups was the strongest part of my game too.

It's a really easy thing to get down too. I can't believe people have trouble with it.

See as someone completely unatheltic now,the leg matters more. I had a problem where I had accuracy with my left hand, range with my right hand, and now doing everything of my left foot seems to have given me more range with my lefthand which is really important for what's almost a set shot.

I really miss playing pickup basketball. It was one of my favorite things to do for a long time. Unfortunately playing resulted in a torn ACL that robbed me of any real athleticism and life hasn't given me an opportunity to get it repaired. But man do I miss it. Maybe one day I can put the high tops on again and relearn how to ball. Its so much goddamn fun :(

I was confused because I remembered there were good pairs for 140 last time I looked, but apparently that was only around Christmas, because right now only the ugliest pair is that cheap. I mean I don't mind paying for shoes since I get about 3 years out of a pair now but 90 more bucks to not be wearing ugly kind of sucks.

I only make fun of them because I can't afford them/wouldn't buy shoes for 250-300, but I'd love to try a pair. As far as what I actually use: I've done 2 pairs of hyperfuses now and I love them. Just a solid, well balanced shoe IMO.

I know I just posted about rolling my ankle, but that being said I love my Kobe 8s. I paid $140 for the python ones when they came out and they're worth that to me. They're like the 6s only incrementally better - sock like, light, low to the ground. I think Nike realized the chunky 7s were the wrong way to go.

I did just buy some hyperdunks for $60 at the Nike outlet to play in until my ankle gets stronger.

I'm not totally sure. I have been to a specialist and had blood work and never got a diagnosis (he spent a lot of time showing me x-rays and saying my bones were weird but I don't know what that translates to as far as a condition). I just know that the front of my feet (below the toes) is where I need a lot of comfort.

2 out of the last four times I wore basketball shoes (Lebron Vs for what it's worth) I tore my ACL. This was only really after wearing them for a total of around 3 months. So I never really wore them before an ankle injury, haven't worn them since and no real issues. Not sure I'll ever bother again.

Yeah they aren't particularly comfortable TBH but I'm not sure if that's just because I haven't worn them that much. I wasn't even looking for Jordans when I found them; I just stumbled across them and they were so ridiculously cheap I went ahead and got them.

Jordan broke his foot in part because the first Air Jordans has no cushioning only a hard rubber sole, though obviously if you're not that athletic it doesn't matter. I notice a huge difference between wearing my reg rubber soled Sambas and actual Bball shoes though .

Life, friends, is boring
Playing in Sambas actually hosed up my bones (especially the hips) for a while. After playing daily for a couple of months in the summer four or five years ago, I could barely walk in the afternoon, and had a lot of pain sitting down. I bought another pair of low cut basketball shoes (Adidas again, I forgot the model) and managed to unfuck myself.

Tonight my rec league team, undefeated, played another undefeated team. After we started the game 22-2, the other guys declared "FOUL THEM AS HARD AS YOU CAN EVERY TIME" and somehow the refs a) didn't hear this or b) ignored it. They spent the entire second half of the game fouling whenever they could get to us. We ended up winning 57-15. That was the most satisfying victory of my life and I only took one shot the entire game.

Light stretching, ice and heat, anti inflammatory. I didn't really move for about 3 weeks and it was fine. I didn't go to the doctor so I don't know if it was a strain or a pull or broken dick or what, but it hurt.

As I get older and less athletic (fatter), I find that young guys want to block everything, so work on pump faking and doing moves afterwards.
I'm 28, 6'7 380 lbs. Hadn't played basketball more than about 2 hours a year since early college days. I played against a 6'10 lanky kid that I pump faked out of his shorts almost every time. After he block my first three.
Especially off of a rebound if you are well defended, pump - spin/drive - layup.

This works even better if you've established a midrange jumper. With my group, I established that I can drill any uncontested dream shake (I practiced that move nonstop for years as a teen since I was/am a Rockets fan) so now anytime I get the ball in the post whoever I'm guarded by gets told to watch the turnaround, making a pumpfake and dropstep the easiest basket ever
