Get your metagame and site discussion on over here in Mr Scumbag's sister threadhttp://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3564663 Use this thread to freak out over the crazy poo poo you are currently witnessing Place bets from your mobile device!! https://www.saltybets.com/mobile Charkie posted:Alright! New strategy: https://www.saltybet.com What is Saltybet.com? Saltybet.com is a hybrid twitch.tv stream and fake money betting game. Originally established as a way to bet upon fighting game tournaments for funsies, the site has expanded to include a 24/7 stream of Mugen CPU vs. CPU random battles to ensure the salt never stops flowing. Contestants are shown pre-match and a betting window is opened, you then place a bet on your pick and before the match starts all bets are locked in. Payout odds are not preset based upon characters in the match but depend upon the bets placed by players, in other words, if everyone backs Rare Akuma and he wins, the payouts are tiny, however, if you have chosen an underdog that somehow pulls out a win all the salt is yours! Due to it's hybrid nature it is recommended to have two accounts set up, one on saltybet itself to allow you to play along and a separate account with twitch.tv so you can join the discussion and get hype in the chat. What happens when I lose all my fake money? What are the salt mines? What is the Illuminati? As a new player you will never drop below ten salty bux, this allows to you to climb your way back to the top of the pile through grit, determination and betting acumen. Being put into this situation is known as the salt mines, with such tiny amounts left to bet with it will be a long, hard, and painful journey back to the land of the living. There is an account based leveling system, the more often you bet, your level will rise, with higher levels your minimum cash will raise making it easier to get out of the mines. The Illuminati is a way to show support for the site and keep yourself from ending up in the salt mines. All Illuminati have a minimum cash amount of $666, in addition to having an edge over stingier players you will also gain perks such as personal bet histories, stats on past match-ups and events and character stats, a fancy gold name and more features promised such as a private forums. All this for the low price of $3.99 a month, $8.99 for 3 months or $30.00 for a year. NOTE: This is all done by hand so if you pay for Illuminati and it doesn't show, it means no one is online to auth, you most likely did not get ripped off. What is MUGEN? Where do I get my own copy of Rare Akuma? How does MUGEN work? I have no idea. This is a thread about betting on robots. This seems awfully imbalanced, why don't they curate the characters better? I don't think you get saltybet.com, why do you hate fun? What happens when we've seen all the characters and it becomes too predictable? It's mugen, my limited understanding of it leads me to believe that the character pool is essentially limitless. Even if you see 3 Rolls or 3 Clouds back to back there is no guarantee it wasn't 3 separate versions of that particular character. Why is every other fight involving some Brazilian DBZ character? Why aren't you betting on DBZ? Didn't you see the thread title? ALWAYS BET ON DBZ! What is a clone? What causes a clone? A clone is a character imported from another version mugen causing some sort of glitch. Invest heavily in clones, they are even better than DBZ. Ok, now what? Have fun guys, share stories of absurd matches, talk strategy, live blog your experience, just have fun. I'd rather not see a ton of meta-gaming, part of the fun is the absurd randomness, please keep your google doc spreadsheet of god tier and poo poo tier characters to yourself, don't ruin it by going super sperg. Saltybet is the most cyberpunk loving thing and I can't stop watching it. Personal highlight for me was polygonal SS14 Goku versus Ryu, Goku takes an early upset by getting in damage and flying to the top of the screen where Ryu can't reach him, only to then proceed to throw the next three matches by taking 2-3 hits and hiding at the top of the screen again with lower health.

The SaltyBet drinking game: 1: Every match take a drink 2: If a character is thrown off screen or match bugs out in some way, chug. 3: Drink If you lose an all-in for/against a DBZ character, go to bed.

Rule 4 - Never bet on clones Clones are exactly what they sound like - a duplicate dummy version of the character. Having a clone implies that the character has NO custom AI so it uses the default lovely AI. You can usually spot clone characters on the betting screen because you can see their dummy's sprite behind them during an idle animation. Be careful with different versions of the same character too. Ghetto Warmachine and Fake Warmachine are great, War Machine has insane AI that sometimes wins, but Warmachine is dog poo poo.

Rule 5 - If a character starts the match by speaking Spanish or Portuguese, odds might be in your favor depending on the matchup!

Speaking of fake versions, are some characters named exactly the same? Or is that at least unique for each version?

Mugen characters can also have special rules and ai sets for pallets as well but I dunno if salty uses any of those characters.

Gyoru posted:Some are named exactly the same so the only way to differentiate between them is remembering their sprites. DBZ characters are very prone to this. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Also, it's a pretty unique feeling of shame to "accidentally" bet a lot on a bad version of a character and then have it displayed to the world that you and a couple of other idiots just wasted a bunch of fake bucks and are on the wrong end of 1:100 odds. e: Nemesis actually almost won a match earlier, because he somehow managed to actually lang 2-3 hits per round which all did like 25% damage.

Anything that's a weird MSpaint character edit, or just a totally terrible MSpaint character, will always be so imbalanced that they win. It's the best. Fat Albert is my favorite. And there's also Sad Claps. Always bet on Sad Claps. You'll know him when you see him. Why is he so sad? We may never know. The site isn't always this weird Dream Cast Casino, either- this whole system is applied to legit fighting game tournaments, such as EVO, and is a lot of fun then too.
