Stultus Maximus posted:Clearly it was plywood. Composite used in warships could stand to be a bit more flame retardant. This is the composite Norwegian minesweeper "Orkla" in 2002 after something happened to one of the 2 MW surface effect fans. They gave up the ship and evacuated after 3 hours, and it still burned for 24 hours before it sank. Tough little ship really. (The class just went by "Barbecue-class" after that)

The Amtrac Schoolhouse! Haha, I was literally on that road about 2 weeks ago, right down the street from 3rd AABn. She's probably from the Army Reserve center that's right down the street there.

It's beautiful how precise those fuckers are. If they can find a way to drop the price to about 10k a round instead of ~50k, people will be less hesitant to call in danger close missions.

Nice boom too.

This is a cross post from my post in Aeronautical Insanity, hopefully you fellows like warbirds too! Some photos from Thunder Over Michigan (click for big): The Mustangs were out in force. This is a P-51B with a pretty distinctive Spitfire-style canopy. The -D model with bubble canopy. Probably my favorite nose art of all time. B-25 Mitchell. And right next to Briefing Time was this B-25, Georgie's Gal. There were also 6 Skyraiders there, but I'm bad with my Skyraider variants so I couldn't tell you which variant this one was. An F-100F Super Sabre was also there; I hadn't seen one before, so that was pretty cool. A Skyhawk was there, as well. I got a decent video of a low pass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETG4VMAQxHs

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, and hopefully someone can point me in a better direction if not, but here is a picture of my grandfather in front of a WWI(?) memorial. We believe it's in Britain, since he served in WWII and was sent to Normandy the day after D-Day. Can anyone identify this monument, or tell me anything more about what it is or what/who it represents?
