Feel my pain. My car _requires_ 91 and has no knock sensor. All I can find in this area is 93. So I either have to mix octanes like a chump (pumps take forever to reset) or blow the extra cash on 2 more points of octane.

Disgruntled Bovine
Jul 5, 2010

Mine takes premium, and I average about 20-21 mpg. It's kind of annoying, but totally worth it. Honestly I hate stations with 91, because I see the price on the sign and think "Oh, that's a good deal" then pull up to the pump and realize my mistake. Like revmoo not many stations around here carry 91 so it always catches me by surprise. That said, what is the point of plus? I don't know of any cars that require 89 octane.

Kenshin

For me it's just $0.20 more per gallon, my car has a ~15 gallon tank, so that's all of $3 more per tank of gas.

Even spending 4500 on fuel a year (:canada:), using 87 over 91 would only save me 200 bucks. It's just not something that actually makes a real difference in cost.

In comparison, going to a civic would save me 1200 per year in gas.

I've found that regardless of if the station has 91 or 93 they are typically the same in price.

The dent isn't horrible, but it bothers me how it creates that gap at the door. I've always really liked this body style as well. I've casually been looking for a 1989 4WS for the past couple years. I'd love to turn one into an autoX car. I just don't have the space for one right now unfortunately. Hopefully I will in about a year when I buy a house. I used to have a 2001 Elantra that needed 89. One time I took a road trip that took me through the Texas panhandle, and soon after I got off I-27, I needed to stop for fuel. I could not find a gas station anywhere that had higher than 87. I believe it went 83, 85, and 87 at every gas station I stopped at.

Having owned one of those little... gems... for a few years (as my first car, no less), no, you don't want it. It's really nothing special - the carb'd engine is merely sufficient for the car, with the 5 speed you might be able to get it to 140km/h on a looooong flat straight, and while the gas mileage might be decent, it has less structural integrity than a geo.
