There's a lot of his videos that rely too much on him just shouting and screaming poop related words but there's also a decent amount that's just him making fun of terrible games in a funny way. Plus he's tried really hard to move on past 'the nerd' to do actual reviews, hasn't he? I can respect a dude knowing when he's reached the end of a gimmick and letting it die instead of riding it forever. He's gone on record as saying that he isn't actually a big fan of the ol' toilet humor, but he keeps it in the reviews because it's what people came to expect, and now it's so intrinsic to the character that he pretty much has to have it. I always thought that his better stuff is when he stops the cursing and looks at old, forgotten consoles and weird experimental pieces of hardware. See his videos on the Atari Jaguar or the many, many Pong machines. They're almost like lessons in gaming history. How else would I know what an Atari Jaguar CD Add-On was?

I know you did an installment of Manic Episodes but I can't remember if you reviewed the whole thing or just singled out a couple of episodes. I plan to do Baywatch Nights as well, it has some stuff that's a lot funnier having seen the rest of Baywatch. I actually watched Nights first, ha ha. I did do one episode way back when, but I'd like to revisit it with Baywatching because it makes a hell of a lot more sense after watching Baywatch proper. Gyges posted:Didn't the Baywatch Hawaii spinoff star a very young Khal Drogo? Baywatch, to Stargate, to Game of Thrones, to Conan. That's a hell of a career arc. It did indeed. Baywatch was his first thing I think. Unfortunately he's in the incredibly awful Hawaii seasons, but he is one of the funnier characters. He's a Hawaiian who grew up in Texas, so his arc is learning about his Hawaiian heritage via training with an old dude on an island, dancing in a loin cloth, and picking up chicks in a Hawaiian shirt/ten gallon hat combo. He's a cowboy after all.

Since it's October Rolfe's Monster Madness is out and that's quite a treat. I love the trivia he has for all the old movies he reviews. We learn a little hearing it, and it also shows how much he loves these old films. Hopefully he can pass that love on to a new generation doing these videos.

I love Halloween season when it comes to internet reviewers, you've got Linkara's Longbox of the Damned, as well as his The Thing reviews, the Monster Madness episodes, Phelous' stuff, and Dena has another Silent Hill Game Den out, this time it's Downpour. Plus tons more stuff from other people.

I always enjoy his Monster Madness series. He has an incredible passion for horror movies, and it comes out in how informative they always are. I'm a bit disappointed with one thing this year, though. When he did Sequel-a-thon last time, he went through the entire Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street series. Being more of a fan of another long horror/slasher series, Friday the 13th, I was hoping he'd take the time to go through all 10 of those this time. But he's looking at 5 movies from 5 different series, so it's not happening this time.

Castlevania is probably his best series, you should definitely start with those. All his latest reviews like Tiger Electronics and Ghost n Goblins are pretty fantastic, I really love those videos. But I think most of AVGN's stuff is good, there's only a few videos I wouldn't recommend. And given that he's been doing this for seven years, he's kept up a much higher standard of quality than most other internet reviewers. Have you at least watched his non-AVGN stuff? He has a real passion for film so all those videos are great to watch.

Miss Wallace posted:I am indeed still doing Charmed. And Baywatch gets amazing during it's peak, I'm looking forward to getting there. Pon my word, there's over 200 episodes and you're going to be doing them all? I think I'd pass out at the mere thought of that. Editing TV series reviews for really new shows like Bomb Girls and Downton Abbey, which only had like...20 episodes each for me to look at - that was bad enough. Are you going to skip any episodes that turn out to be really boring and lame? Hobart is the name of the capital of Tasmania, but I had no idea it was an actual first name anywhere. Oh, and the guy it was named after - Lord Hobart so and so..that was his surname, not his first name. I'm assuming that while it's a variation of Hubert, Hobart as a first name is probably an extension of the American trend of turning surnames into first names, which they appear to have been doing for quite a long time, if some of the Victorian American names I encounter are any clue. I still wince whenever I hear anyone called Peyton or Spencer or Channing. Hobie is indeed an awful name though. Ah yes, the old trend of making little boys into boob-ogling woman chasing little casanovas. It's pretty funny when you think about the double standard of this, seeing as a little girl ogling a dude would be seen as the creepiest thing ever. I still think it's the creepiest thing ever, but I guess that was the "boys will be boys!" mentality, which has hopefully evaporated somewhat since the dark days of the 80s. Those swimsuits look awful. They look like they'd give anyone a wedgie. Also, what the hell is Madchen Amick doing in this? They really should have left the weird-stalker mysterious Madchen Amick thing to David Lynch. Baywatch clearly can't handle it. Oh man, there's so much that's cheesy and terrible about this show, I had no idea. Like..the fish painting. Who the hell paints in a way that sections of the painting are perfectly untouched, like some kind of...kid's puzzle book where you have to put the wooden fish cutout or fish sticker in the empty space? Pretty sure people just paint so that things are consistently unfinished...and bring everything up to the same standard of completion at the same time? Also, Craig's eyes are so close together. It's just creepy. There's something really wrong looking about his face. I know my assessment of the episode has thus far been...random observations, but that was really entertaining. Great breakdown of a show that would probably make me want to tear my own face off. Eddie sure was annoying, and Mitch seems like..well...he doesn't seem to have much of a personality or anything cool about him.

I plan to look at them all, though two-parters and the like will be put together and the episodes will only be as long as they need to be. So, if it's really boring I'm not stretching it out to 20 minutes. It's a possibility some of the later Hawaii episodes might get put into one review to condense it if I have nothing to say. This isn't meant to be my main series or quickly done, just short videos I can do for fun in between larger projects. I'm really happy at the response so far, it seems people are enjoying it. Thanks! That was fun to do, even though the technical quality isn't great. Plus it wasn't scripted and I say some dumb stuff, ha ha. Oh goodness, I absolutely love genre TV. I am also always watching more of it, so if I made a list I'd probably be changing or adding to it later. She-wolf of London is my favorite TV show so yes, it'd definitely be there. Chances are if I enjoy the series it'll get a Manic Episodes treatment anyway. But maybe I could do a recommendation list, who knows? I will say this, if you want a pretty good list of genre shows there's a book called Terror Television, it's in 2 volumes and covers American series from 1970-1999. It won't cover it all but it's a good place to start. EDIT: Edited just to say that if you do read it and you're sensitive to spoilers, don't read up on a series you know you want to watch already. It's a pretty comprehensive analysis of the shows, the plots, the initial reviews, etc., so sometimes major plot points get thrown out there. I'd watch the audio balance a bit as the music in the beginning was way louder than your audio, and it also went on way too long. I generally don't let an intro go past 30 seconds, and that's only if I have something with visual interest. Otherwise I'd keep it less than 15 seconds. As for the video itself, it was really informative. I can tell you know your stuff and I really enjoyed hearing about the history of young adult fiction, especially stuff from the 90s. Though the intro went on long I was impressed with how well you kept my interest with the visuals in the rest of the video, it's very difficult to review a book in video form. The writing was solid and your narration flowed really well.

I agree with the above: I really enjoyed it! And I have to agree that few things take me out of a video faster (or close it completely) than overlong intros. I was in high school the time a lot of these books came out, but I'd regularly pick them up for my nephew who loved the Goosebumps to bits. I can't overstate how huge Goosebumps were at the time and once Harry Potter took off, my goodness. It wasn't unusual to see as much as a third of a bookstore dedicated to these titles alone. The audio levels could be evened out a little (really it's not too bad), but I think that a microphone screen (even a rudimentary one) would be useful as there were a number of points where your breath could be heard cutting in, especially on some of the sharper consonants. I hope it's something you keep up with, as it chronicles an untapped genre at about the time I'd gotten out of it (last book I recall was Diane Hoh's Funhouse from the Point Horror line). Your style reminds me of Chuck Sonneburg (SFDebris) whom I admire a great deal.

Looks like the Red Letter Media guys have started up a new segment, probably to make up for them being really busy lately: Quick Cuts, apparently for small little quick reviews of films they can't really fit into their normal rotation. For their first episode, they're starting of with Escape From Tomorrow, aka that film that everyone is surprised hasn't led to legal action on Disney's part. I dunno, I don't really care too much for this segment, mainly because I think RLM are at their best when they have the guys play off each other. Or at least have Rich Evans laughing for ten minutes.
