It occurs to me that war perpetuates because human beings are transfixed by their own memory of the past and prediction of the future, capabilities unique to them and fundamental to the great intelligence that they hold with such pride. This is how war can continue for decades and generations, because memory inspires vengeance and vengeance inspires retribution, but there is no memory of conflict for the wolf or the bear. Is the natural world a more peaceful one or does nature respond to the absence of prediction by engaging in war perpetual, an ongoing and endless conflict which mankind can and has elevated itself from?

OP the only difference between man and pleasure are its goals. Man seeks pleasure and nature seeks only survival. When we've extinguished our raison d'etre and scoured the earth, nature will continue on and survive around the scars we've left behind. Both are violent as poo poo, though, 2/5 for naturalistic fallacy.

the cool thing about being human is that we can examine how nature works as a whole and come to the conclusion that a system that mimics evolution or "the strongest survive" is ineffecient and the fact that it generated sentient beings such as us that became so relatively powerful is uncanny. despite how nature actually works, we have projected our own psychotic ideas onto the universe. some of them work pretty well.

to be fair there are some better examples in nature that come closer to collectivism/socialism when you examine trees and plants. plants and trees in cultivated or old forests communicate with each other through complex systems of fungus called mycorrhiza. trees will even aid plants that are beneficial to them but are of another species through the mycorrhiza in the soil. they will do the same thing, but to a greater effect to their own saplings which don't get enough sunlight. nature isn't a balance. it's a dynamic equilibrium. a system of constantly fluctuating, but ultimately cyclical and reversible patterns.
