Yeah you Americans never got to experience the first Fortwo...the one with the diesel engine and the world's worst transmission (it was far, far worse than the transmission fitted to the second-gen Fortwo). The first-gen Fortwo was an irredeemable shitheap by itself, made worse by the fact that here in Canada it was sold and serviced by Mercedes dealerships.

Well this one will have a 5 speed manual available so maybe it's not all bad.

All this Challenger stuff is nice but it's still overly large and chubby-cheeked. Where's the 2015 Comanche SRT Hellcat?

Do we know if the Hellcat is gonna be a limited run or not? Because if the MSRP for it is 60k and it's going to be around for a while, what's the point in spending 50K for an SRT8 Challenger or Charger? I wonder if Dodge is gonna be shooting themselves in the foot with that close of a price to their SRT line-up.
|
# ? Jul 17, 2014 05:08 |
Here are starting prices for various trim levels. $26,995 SXT MSRP $31,495 R/T MSRP $34,495 R/T Plus MSRP $38,495 R/T Scat Pack MSRP $45,395 SRT 392 MSRP $59,995 SRT Hellcat MSRP There's been no number given for Hellcat production, but most people think that they won't exceed 5 to 6 thousand a year.

It's not a limited run or production, there's an interview (that I can't find now) that says Dodge will make as many Hellcats as people are willing to buy. The 8 speed auto that Chrysler is putting into their bigger cars is kind of awesome. A Hellcat with the 8 spd gets 20 MPG combined. A 392 Challenger with the 8 spd avoids the gas guzzler tax completely. It actually gets the same MPG as the current Challenger R/T does.

It's a bit confusing now that the R/T Scat Pack also has the 6.4l engine but is $8k less than the SRT 392, I guess they really wanted to match GM in terms of displacement at every trim level. A 6.4l for $38k with a stick seems like the sweet spot.

Plus the SRT 392 now comes with a lot more stuff standard.

Looks like final power figures are coming out finally for the S550 Mustang: 435 HP/400 lb. ft. for the V8, 310 HP & 320 lb. ft. for the EB 2.3 Also the EB has been confirmed as the lightest of the models at 3517 for the manual EB. (When exactly did 3500 lbs become 'light'?)

What are the odds Mazda actually makes a performance version of the new Mazda2 to compete with the Fiesta ST?

Tacier posted:What are the odds Mazda actually makes a performance version of the new Mazda2 to compete with the Fiesta ST? Extremely low. The only thing they really have on tap currently that is a "hot" motor is the Skyactiv D 2.2L that they have trouble with. I'm hoping that they bring over the 1.5L turbo diesel, though. I think there was a rumor about a new Mazdaspeed3, but I don't know if they have a secret turbocharging department.

If they could squeeze the 2.5 from the 6 into it that'd be pretty good for a Mazdaspeed 2 at 184 hp/185 lb-ft.

That's probably for the diesel, unless I'm dumb and modern diesels rev as high as gasoline engines.

Hopefully they won't give us a digital tach for manual transmissions. That's the only thing I don't like about the new 3 (only the S models get the analog tach, and they aren't available with MT yet).

I bet they'll stick with the traditional 5 ciricle display on the Miata. That's one of its little signature stylistic cues. Similarly, I won't trust any renderings that don't have two pairs of circular tail lights.
