Uh. Emmie was born out of a vat into a life of slavery, to become a professional sexworker as she grew up, which has given her PTSD apparently and she's incapable of fighting. She's completely stupid, extremely social, yet has no artistic talent. She can cook like a fiend too, and can build her own mansion. She's my only surviving starting colonist of my original wave, which got overwhelmed by a horde of zombies. Emmie only escaped by kiting them in circles around a turret. This game.

Not gonna lie, it always feels a little gross when you're randomly generating colonists (or rather rerolling them dozens of times to get good ones) and the vatgrown slavegirl/urbworld sex slave combo comes up.

I have a feeling that might be someone's name in the game combo because it comes up a lot together I find.

Emmie just went berserk and ran like a goddamn hero through a whole line of gunfire, batmanning her way through without taking anything more than a glancing hit, and beat the poo poo out of an a pirate. I guess she got mad? She's back to normal now.

Can't loving agree more. This game is like Dwarf Fortress's base (underlying fundamentals, that is) done right. No simulating of each dwarf's full cardiovascular system in real-time. Just enough complexity and such to be understandable and playable without going too loose. Although I LOVE the game, Craft The World would be an example of too simplistic. DF would be the OTHER way. And if you want an example of one of these games (that isn't Dwarf Fortress, the ultimate example) that is good but has an interface that blows, making the gameplay impossible to stomach getting to, Timber & Stone. I hope to hell that the game brings in enough people (we're close to the Steam release, which will take the current size of the community and octuple it) that enough of them start modding and filling out all the lore-friendly content, to which there'll be a buncha bizarre poo poo that fits for fun, if not flavor. Already we have a BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! mod out to show the latter example. Sacrifice to the Warp in order to get steam vents nearby! Well, some of them are pre-set, or select from a small list of names that are suited. There's a nerd background that mentions being bullied for having a French name as a kid. That doesn't exactly apply to Ernesto Sanchez.

Also some of the more tryhard names are name in game packs. I remember seeing a pop star that can only do social and art (crashed out of a pod, was utterly useless) as well as a guy named Riesling Bacchus a child of sommeliers I think.

What difficulty and AI are you guys playing on? I tend to go for the regular classic mode but I'm thinking of switching to Randy Random, though I imagine that can get pretty boring if the dice rolls in such a way that you don't get any enemies for a long time.

I ordered a guy with 10 shooting to go hunting but he has cataracts and an M-16 so instead of killing only half a herd of deer like I wanted he killed them all over the course of two days. edit: one it was down to a single, incapacitated deer he spent all night shooting at it almost to the point of mental break. The next morning he came back to it and accidentally shot a squirrel to death and the deer bled out Pornographic Memory fucked around with this message at 01:53 on Oct 7, 2014 |

Randy and w/e the default difficulty is. Sometimes you do get quiet spells but then other times you get several mech waves followed my rampaging animals.

I prefer Phoebe cranked up, if you do well with Cassie or whoever eventually you just keep getting sieges and mech waves every five minutes. I once broke a siege and had another siege come in before the first guys had left the map. Phoebe mainly leaves you alone but when you get hit you get hit hard.

It's something I really like about the game that you have a choice in both how the game hits you as well as how hard. You really can tailor the experience to something you like without just making it easy or difficult.

The accuracy in this game is pretty silly sometimes. This colonist with a 13 skill in shooting and no impairments is unable to hit a stationary turtle in shock that is literally a foot away. I gave up after 10 bursts or so and just had her grab the snake that she killed while trying to kill the turtle.

Maybe she was too close to accurately shoot?

It's a pulse rifle, so I would assume it's like an assault rifle. The listed accuracy for the R-4 is 95% - 83% - 68% - 53%. I would think that'd mean anything in the first range quadrant should be hit 95% of the time, but... apparently not.

Hunters gain 15xp (50 with one flame, 75 with two) per shot when hunting, regardless if they hit or miss. Colonist's hunting behavior is to go to max range with their weapons and fire from afar. Therefore, as a training regimen, I send highly motivated gunmen to hunt tortoises and only tortoises with pistols or uzis - they may not come home in time for dinner, but they will learn a great deal from the experience (like Zeno's Paradox is alive and well.)

It's coming to Steam, and soon. Not 'they announced a date' soon, but 'it's going to just randomly pop up on the store, buyable in its current state, one day and nobody'll know beforehand' soon. I recommend you wait until Steam happens and buy it there, especially if they have the obligatory sale price that they almost always have for a new indie title.

I really liked Starbound, but I put it on the shelf after I exhausted what little content was there on purpose so that I don't burn out on the game before they actually finish it. It was a fun binge though. I'm looking forward to playing it again once there's (a little, admittedly) more structure to the progression than "Start, boss, boss, now you have everything" Granted, it'll probably just be seven or eight more iterations of "boss"..

How easy is modding in this game? I'm kind of disappointed about the lack of big mods/modpacks that change more than a handful of things. Like there's all kinds of mods that add cool things but what I want is themed mods I can just get in one download that gives me everything Might try and do it myself as a project on my weekends.
