Diminutive Rob is going to marry his long time girlfriend on the show. Production fast tracked that storyline through. It was always going to happen per non muted feed chatter. That will be the cozy bookend to quietly finalize this poo poo experiment. If Utopia lasts after the MLB World Series ends I'd be surprised.

It's only on Fridays now, where it's doing less damage to the lineup. I think the odds are good they'll let it tread water there through the end of the year and then dump it for midseason replacements.

I was into this show until I realized they were able to tap into local utilities, and allow people onto their land. They're not really isolated at all, and its essentially a show about paying your bills rather than developing a new society. I still follow the thread for the drama, though, and for cancelation watch, but we haven't watched this show since week two. Its kind of a shame, because the premise is super interesting, it was just really poorly executed.

Can't really say I'm surprised that the guy who came up with Big Brother -- where they sit around the whole time -- let this show descend into that same issue. Amanda's due date is early December I think, so they might keep it that long.

I actually had started watching Big Brother because I wandered into this thread and read about it. BB was a lot more entertaining. (I haven't watched any live feeds -- was just catching up on the last season. So I can't really compare the two) At least there they have structured competitions and an endgame. And even if someone is cutthroat or a lovely person, at least it plays into it somehow. In Utopia, there are a bunch of whiny tantrum-throwing assholes but no real way to get them out and no real reason to watch them do anything, either.

The thing that keeps killing me is Bella crying. You're supposed to be a survivalist, but when they don't buy a water purifier you lose your poo poo and break down? Shouldn't she be able to make one of those? Shouldn't she be able to survive social hardships like being disrespected without crying and threatening to quit? She's gonna be useless WTSHTF, as the preppers say.

I believe they do have to pay the electric bill after the first month. They are truly building a new society from the ground up.

Do we even know if they'll be responsible for it? They pay bills for both their water and electricity. Their electric bill for the first month wasn't much (I want to say 10-20 bucks). The water bill was much higher though, in no small part because of wasteful water use. I'm not sure if they've become better about that--haven't even watched the cams in days. The notion of them being their own society was never anything but a marketing ploy and they operate more like a commune that isn't completely off the grid.

The show is horrible, and is incredibly boring, I tuned in yesterday to the live feed and im pretty sure they had a "trial" that lasted hours over someone stealing mayonnaise. When it comes to bills they weren't all that bad when split between all those people, except one. Apparently they tried using the manure for compost but they thought that brought in too many flies, so now they pay the city to haul away their manure. The monthly cost for sanitation was like 4x all the other bills combined haha.

What killed the show for me was the fact that they get to make money by just using the fact that they are on TV/internet to get money from visitors. The show was okayish until the first visitors weekend after which they knew that all basic material needs would be secured.

The only legitimate revenue stream they've found is renting out space to that beekeeper.

As far as I could tell they didn't even find the beekeeper. He seemed to just show up one day, so either he saw the show and figured out the advantage of advertising or space himself or production brought him in since the colonists were never going to do anything. Yeah, between how easy it became to make money and it becoming clear they're not their own society, they're not even off the grid... I just don't see the point. I think my breaking point was when I saw Hex complaining that they're not doing anything different from what they were doing before so "What's the point?" I realized I completely agreed with Hex so I wished her well and stopped watching.

Its worse than that, the bee keeper and that new guy cal were on the experimental run of the show, meaning they were there for several weeks before the current cast living there helping fox make sure everything was set up. The show is pure poo poo.

This show has been so boring since Red and that ex-con dude left. I want to see more stomping on cans due to unhappiness with "horseradishes." They're apparently not hurting for money if they can blow $750 on a wedding. Why are they paying for it anyway? Cal creeps me the gently caress out. I hate everyone on this show, why am I still watching?

Word on the street is that this wedding episode that was aired will be the jump off point for FOX to get the Hell away from the poison that is Utopia and wrap it up. Feeds will continue through to around the 25th for the live feed paying customers.

All they need to do to increase ratings is to build a wall around the complex, remove all access to the outside world, wait 30 days and then rename the show "Cannibal Prison". I predict Aaron or Cal wins.

How do we not have at least some idea of what's coming, since they must be talking about it. Edit: After actually looking, I guess the producers are censoring it. Seriously, gently caress this show. I'm still reeling from the fact that the two-week build up to some massive, earth-shattering twist for the pioneers turned out to be "we do the same thing as last month, but this time, all three are from America!" Oh, and the addition of confessionals. Way to break new ground there, Utopia.
