Pump groups don’t have the best image in the crypto currency scene. This is mainly because in the early days of altcoin pump and dump(01 – 03/2014 for example), many scammers have been around. They “prebought” tons of coins before the main event, just to unload their coins on the group members and dump in their buy orders. This obviously caused big losses for the pump group, and only the pump organisators were able to profit from this. They mainly scammed their own followers.

Seeing this we decided to revolutionize the twitter pump & dump scene. We tried different approaches. In our first pumps, the community could vote for the coin to pump. It’s a nice way to determine coin to pump, and many followers reported, that they like the system.

Another method to ensure a fair coin selection process is to let the coin being chosen by publisc randomization. We established a new system call Proof Of Fair Pump.

reuters did a nice year in review on 2014, the year of the buttcoin. it's a p decent read if you need to see someone with a level of journalistic respectability explain that bitcoin has been slumping for a year and every sign of growth is actually backed up by nothing. see them counting empty wallets as new adopters, and the fact that all the bitcoin retailers cash out the second they touch butts (save for overstock but that's because the ceo is literally insane and thinks his stock is getting gangstalked).

One development many bitcoin supporters hope could change this is the Atlas bitcoin card, the first bitcoin U.S. debit card for buying goods and services and a business backed by venture capitalist Draper.

But Atlas still has to run the gauntlet of regulatory approvals before the card hits the market, the company's co-founder, Mickey Costa said. He declined to elaborate.

Draper said Atlas could eventually save retailers the 2-1/2 to 4 percent fee they pay credit card companies.

If you just buy low and hope to sell high that's OK. It's when you buy low, start promoting it as "the next big thing" and then cash out near the peak that the SEC wants to talk to you. It can't really be distinguished from legitimate enthusiasm until someone looks at when you cash out and what happens to the price afterwards.

I worked for one company where "senior" meant 5 years experience. At another they said they don't bother with that word, they have grade levels which you move up, but if for some reason you really want your contract to say "senior" they can add it in. Perhaps they would do it for graduates too.

It's a lot easier to go after registered brokers and exchanges but they can put a spotlight on anyone. Years ago the SEC went after some high school kid who was loving around with penny stocks. They let him off with a warning and a pinky swear not to engage in market manipulation ever again.

I don't even know what sort of degree a person would need to be able to reliably personally verify the security of their rnd generator.

cryptographically secure pseudorandom number generators (csprngs) are stream ciphers, stream ciphers are csprngs. want a secure generator? pick a good stream cipher, seed it with good entropy (that's where my hardware entropy source came in handy), and use its output as a random number sequence instead of using it as a pad to encrypt a message

so the degree you need is crypto, and the standard crypto advice applies:

but rnd() functions with streaks are bad

one of the tests i used on my hardware rnd() was piping blocks of its output data into imagemagick to make the bits into a 1bpp png. when i had probs with (a lack of) statistical independence between successive samples it was visible as horizontal streaks. not what u'd use to be really confident about anything but the mk 1 eyeball is a dece sanity check for a rng

In particular, Defendants’ counsel made the
following threats of potential litigation against Temporary Receiver:

- With respect to the court-ordered transfer, Counsel for BFL states that
“Defendants certainly reserve all rights, claims, causes of action, etc. against
both the FTC and the Receiver in connection with any loss or damage resulting
from this transfer.” (Ex. 1-11 (Email chain dated 10/24/2014) (emphasis added)).

- Regarding the sale of company assets, counsel for BFL stated: “We object. We
will object to your motion. You secured this asset which was located at Mr.
Zerlan’s house without full disclosure. He is the registered owner of the gun. If
you sell it, you will have to contend with that and whatever issues it
raises. Your client did not want any guns at the premises and as I understood it
said he would feel better if we turned this gun over. You are a temporary
receiver, not the owner of the business. Being “directed and authorized” to
exercise your discretion (“advisable or necessary”) doesn’t insulate you from
liability or accountability for your actions. Please advise in writing the basis
for your decision to exercise your discretion and sell this firearm during an
interim period.” (Ex. 1-11 (Email chain dated 10/24/2014) (emphasis added)).

- Counsel for BFL states to FTC (copying Temporary Receiver) that “the Court has
only appointed him receiver based on our stipulation to it in the interim order.
You won’t be so lucky next time.” (Ex. 1-11 (Email chain dated 10/24/2014).

- In response to Temporary Receiver’s decision to preclude use of company

Labs objects, and notes the ongoing prejudice and obstacles in repairing its
name and reputation.” (Ex. 1-11 (Email chain dated 10/17/2014) (emphasis
added)).

As a result of emails like those above, Temporary Receiver anticipates, then and now,
having to defend himself against BFL in a future action. (Ex. 1, ¶ 45). Consequently, Temporary
Receiver required consultation with his attorneys and other professionals to defend his position
and decisions in anticipation of litigation with BFL in the future. (Ex. 1, ¶ 45).
