Hell yeah - finally got in relatively ground floor, played it kinda right, and made a little money.

Somehow got a buy in for about 70 $.03 bags of gems last night, converted them into dozens and dozens of boosters, opened those and sold off the cards as the prices plummeted. Two or so hours of clicking like a fool later and my steam wallet went from $2.50 to $15 and change.

I ALMOST MADE MINIMUM WAGE ON STEAM!

Don't do anything. Just put some money in your Steam wallet and buy games when the sale starts. I took a look at this for a few minutes last night. I purchased some backgrounds, turned those in to 5K gems, and then picked up a few booster packs. Got a Ys Origin foil out of it at least which netted me $2. After 20 minutes I realized this entire thing was dumb as hell. I instead worked remotely for an hour, made $50, and put that toward the sale. It's really not worth it in the long run. You could be doing things that are actually fun.

But boy did I laugh myself to sleep when I watched everything crash and burn later in the evening.

I'm not hard up for money either, but most people don't have the option to work remotely for 50$ an hour. If I make 5$ playing a system that's interesting anyway, that's a decent way to spend my non-work time.

I'm really curious to see what they do with the gems. I made back anything I spent (which was all card money anyway) and I've still got 16 pages of cards and a couple hundred thousand gems. I wonder how many gems were removed from the system.

It's just a moonlighting gig, so I can't do it all the time, but the point I was getting at is to do something fun instead! Rather than make $3 an hour, go play some of your Steam games during that time you dummies.

Should you find yourself here one day... In accordance with your crimes, you can rest assured I will give you the treatment you deserve.
I was just quietly trashing unwanted backgrounds and emoticons, and using them to make booster packs for badges I wanted. I hope I can craft some more boosters with my remaining gems - BlazBlue booster packs and cards are waaay too expensive for the justify spending my meager card sales pennies on.

If they're dumb enough to put gems back on the market, check http://steam.tools/cards/ and compare the boosters you could make to the cost of the gems to make them. There will probably only be very few you can turn around for a small profit. The auctions will still get driven up to stupid prices for even the games nobody wants so I don't know if I'd bother with that, but looking for deals midway through when some of the highest bids have been stripped away could be more worthwhile.

You could also try speculation that the gems might go up in price once the auctions actually start firing off, but that seems iffy to me since there's a huge supply of poo poo nobody wants which people can buy and grind up.

Well I didn't make money off this weirdness but while I was playing SR I hacked a flying cop car, got into it, rode it into a secure compound past the gates with my new credentials instead of shooting the place up. Unfortunately when I tried to park the car in an open lot the car started spinning out of control in place and I couldn't get off, and since I was in plain view of the cop's camera I couldn't get out to either hack it or hide from it so I alerted the compound. Then ate a grenade after killing one of the cops that tried to attack me in my flying tank.

Edit: Making foils? As in playing a game that randomly gets you foil cards if you're lucky, or some other process?

Now that the gem drama is over (or at least laying in wait) two questions in advance of the Winter Sale:

1. I rather like the Warhammer 40K Inquisitor stuff (still hoping for a proper RPG based around an inqisitor and his acolytes investigating some messed up chaos stuff, battling demons and eldar and whatnot at some point). Space Marines, on the other hand, kinda bore me. Are any of the W40k games worth checking out if I'm not into Space Marines/strategy?

2. Last time I asked, the thread gave me an interesting list of hidden objects games, but couldn't tell me which among these was just pure HOG without too many adventure game elements / an overbearing plot (Mystery PI style, ideally). The steam group also had nothing to contribute. Help?

I figured out my problem with FFXIII-2. The Settings in the main menu only affect new games. You have to change it from the in game menu once you load your save for them to stick.

Mordor is $16.59 for me. That's a hell of a price to pass up...

Edit: Actually it's $19 if you buy it with G2A SHIELD, in case you get boned by the seller? Weird.

Huh? I thought I pretty much told you which Hidden Object games on Steam that are old school, and none in that list are. They are all Adventure-lite with HO scenes as well as other types of puzzles.
There aren't any old-school Russian language HO games on Steam.

Is it generally ideal to go with the G2A selected offer? There are other sellers listed. The cheapest is $2 less than the G2A selected offer.

Yeah, G2A user sellers (and other sites like that) do weird poo poo like social engineer keys off developers and junk. Apparently when you buy Shield (both ways?) they require you to enter the key while using TeamViewer or something. Pretty shifty, but if you just care about the lowest price...

Edit: Here's the one about pretending to be a reviewer. A majority of them could be through price errors, regional or distribution discounts, or even just straight hacking, but who really knows, that's why it's the gray market.

Don't feel too bad. People in here always insist that sites like G2A are legit, only they mean "well the keys mostly seem to work!" as opposed to "this site doesn't have anything to do with keys obtained through theft or region fuckery".
