sleep talk, as i've alluded to in this thread and the others, i have a less than optimal brain these days, which is mainly handled by mass amounts of prescribed stims like modafinil

some of you might be familiar with it, it's mostly gotten press because of it's nootropic potential, but what's almost never mentioned is that it's primary use is to counter narcolepsy, and at the level i'm at i basically destroyed my normal circadian rhythm, which was already shaky because i've had to struggle with insomnia before all this started

my point being i'm one of those people who functions on a retarded amount of sleep (like 4 hours per 2 day cycle) and after 5 years of this i would gladly strangle a gaggle of puppies to be able to have a good night's sleep

a good night's sleep is severely underrated

yup, and it's a vicious cycle, lack of sleep makes you more susceptible to stress/anxiety, which then only worsens your ability to fall asleep/the quality of what little sleep remains

studies on people who self-report this show no apparent ability to perform as well on less sleep as they can on more sleep: they show the same cognitive defects when they don't get the proper 8 hours of sleep as someone who self-reports they need the full eight

it's more if you can do it without actually murdering someone or not

i find i can get by on much less sleep (3-4 hours a night compared to the 6 or so i normally need) if i can grab like 20 minutes sleep in the middle of the day, but like you say, i'm worthless all afternoon if not

if i can't get at least 4 hours sleep i function better the next day if i just don't sleep at all , but that's apparently pretty common.

the ultraman/uberman sleep schedule is 2 hours total per day, from 20 minute naps every 4 hours (that's what atlas tried)

the military sleep schedule you're thinking of involves attempting to get 45 minutes of sleep in each nap, ideally as much as 2 hours, and trying to get as close to 8 hours a day as you can from 45 minute to 2 hour naps while keeping the thing going.

yup, i can attest to that, the only reason i'm vaguely functional after the sleep deprivation caused by the primary line of meds is that there's a secondary line that consists of more stims to address the adhd-like symptoms you develop when you skip sleep

basically it's doable, if you're willing to massacre your health and cause severe personality & cognitive issues

i really don't get why people would aspire to this, especially without the pills and proper medical supervision, since yeah you're up more, but best case scenario you'll end up doing about the same things, just slower
