I've never played the RE5 DLC, but there's some unused dialogue around the :37 mark in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMR6TjqjO_c where Jill mentions Chris hitting it off with some younger chick back at the base. I certainly don't want to be the one to destroy the image of a homosexual Chris though, so we can just assume that unused lines don't count for anything.

I can guarantee you Capcom did not want to do that either.

PaletteSwappedNinja posted:Aren't the Japanese versions (or at least whatever extended universe crap is out there) a little more explicit about Chris being gay as hell? Backhand posted:From what I understand, no, they never come out and say that. However, ultra-masculine behavior in Japan is treated as much more of an indication of homosexuality, so even if Chris is never outright stated to be gay, he would fit most of the stereotypes pretty well. Yeah, it's the latter. The idea behind Chris's physique in RE5 was that he'd been obsessively training after CV for a rematch with Wesker, and had kept up that level of effort even though Wesker was thought to be dead. When they got around to finally animating him, they'd inadvertently created a character who hit pretty much all the criteria for Japanese "bara" porn. Instead of backing off of that once they were made aware of this, they played up on it with Chris's next few alternate costumes, so now RE has a new weird little fanbase that makes it very difficult to look at the Chris Redfield tag on Tumblr. Full Battle Rattle posted:Chris -> Piers After replaying RE6 a few days ago, I really don't see Chris/Piers as a thing, since Piers spends most of the campaign trying frantically to keep Chris from doing something suicidal. He's the angry commanding officer from an '80s cop movie, but the ranks are reversed and all his authority comes from having more common sense than Chris does. The scenes in Revelations always struck me as Chris being utterly oblivious to Jessica, both times because he's focused on the job at hand and/or Jill. I've never been a big believer in the idea that turning down a woman for any reason is a rock-solid signifier of homosexuality, because being a man obviously means you're a big meat Gundam for your dong.

I think Capcom made Chris look gay on accident and when people noticed, they started playing along with the fans. Plus, Chris being gay sounds Also is it true for the Remaster HD Turbo Remix that after you kill the Elder Crimson head, Crimson Head Forrest will gently caress off and never appear again?

Story-wise it's actually supposed to specifically be after he loses Jill in Spencer's European mansion that he starts bulking up, but he's bigger in Revelations and Lost in Nightmares, so he clearly just wanted to get huge regardless.

Like when Jessica gets all huffy that Chris never paid attention to her, Parker suggests that he's already in love with Jill - but then when they walk off together the first thing Chris tells Jill is that stun grenades work well on the swimming BOWs. My favorite Revelations line is when Chris says "it's like there's a disco ball in front of my face" when the final boss pulls off his seeing double trick for the first time.

I prefer a kind of compromise – they might sleep together on occasion and are pretty close friends, but ultimately their relationship is more about killing monsters than anything else.

The thing I always thought was most interesting about the first game (both original and REMake), is that if you play as Chris, it's a bit less obvious that Wesker is the traitor. There's one memo on the second floor where, when Jill gets it, it mentions 'that guy in black sunglasses'. When you get it in Chris's game, that part of the page is torn off. He doesn't overhear a conversation in the shacks near where Plant 42 is, and his dialogue with Enrico is a lot less obviously 'Wesker did it'. There might be a few other things, but those are the ones I remember. And Lisa knocks him off a ledge to his apparent doom. I wonder if had I picked Chris first back the first time I played, if it woulda been more 'oh poo poo!' rather than 'makes sense' when you finally find that memo & slideshow that reveals Wesker works for Umbrella. E: Richard in the original's voice is hilarious. 'This house is too dangerous. It's full of terrible demons. Ouch.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSahA_NWJJw LadyPictureShow fucked around with this message at 05:40 on Jan 30, 2015 |

Interestingly enough, if you get to that room as quick as possible (as Jill), you get an extra cutscene with Barry where he gives the file to Jill and the whole thing is there, because she interrupted him from tearing it. One thing that's really under appreciated about the earlier games in the series is all the little variations you can get in terms of cutscenes and events. RE3 in particular had a crazy amount of different paths you could take depending on what order you visited locations. In addition, a lot of items were random in that game – sometimes you'd get the magnum in the police station, other times you'd find a grenade launcher. I wish they would go back to stuff like that – nowadays pretty much every person's experience of RE4/5/etc will play out the exact same way because they're so linear. A more open design has so many more possibilities.
