Because he put more effort into it than a normal shitposty joke would involve? I've never played with Harold before, seems kind of like Jetlam. Seems like he's either trying to break the game or lie. If he's lying, he's breaking the spirit of the game by either effectively outing himself as scum (with non-scum names on the list), or lying as town for the sake of lying and making his own lynch likely. The only way his play makes sense in the spirit of mafia would be if he's a jester.

I remember whats-his-nuts being a jester in (I think) Dhaesed and Confused 2, so not impossible.
