quote:As we reported, the hit fantasy’s showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss believe the rest of Martin’s saga will take seven seasons to conclude on screen. HBO, however, would actually prefer more than that—but also emphasized the network wouldn’t want to drag out the story if the writer-producers sincerely believe additional seasons would be detrimental to their creative vision. “We know basically how many hours are left in this story,” Benioff says. “It’s about finding that sweet spot so it works for us and for HBO and, most of all, it works for the audience.” Nice to see everyone out there is still in the Denial phase of grief. Yes, 10 seasons.. don't worry GRRM, plenty of time! Everyone else has their GRRM = absolute fucker mantra, I have my own: Linda Antonssen is a nazi oval office. *ahh...feel better now. I found it interesting to watch those Preston Jacobs videos and how he explains that everyone is wrong about Feast and Dance being useless. he actually went the other way to make us think that one or two toss away house names or micro-minor characters that no one paid attention to are actually the KEY secret conspiracies that are KEY to the entire story. I want to believe...I really do. I'd like to believe that Maester Marwyn is some sort of puppet master controlling everyone behind the scenes, or some of the other theories. If so, great. If not, Jacobs seems to be pointing out serious flaws in the writing. If that's the case, no wonder GRRM is taking a long time, or simply doesn't care anymore. Two brick sized books of wandering around seems a bit much, so I gave Jacobs the benefit of the doubt that there was something there that none of us took into consideration. But I've talked to fans of Wheel of Time who had to wade thru a lot more before the author's death, so yeah. I just don't have time for that poo poo.

drat, dude. I don't think GRRM's writing is perfect or anything but judging it based on whether Preston Jacob's theories come true is a test doomed to fail. Preston Jacobs is the worst: his theories are nonsense and often rely on blatant misinterpretations of the text and faulty reasoning.

Marwyn is going to be important though. His name is a play on Merlin and he's been set up since book 1, with connections to two important characters (Qyburn and Mirri Maez Durr/Maester). If the books come out. There was a theory that sounded crazy at first but thinking on it actually made it sound reasonable. The idea being that Marwyn and Alleras were using the glass candles to enter Aemon's mind to ask him questions and gather information. The evidence being that Marwyn says the glass candles can do this, that when Sam gets to the Citadel they inexplicably know things they shouldn't (and Sam mentions this) and because Aemon makes refererence to a sphinx riddle (Sallera). Another thing someone pointed out is that the maesters test their initiates by locking them in a room and seeing if they can light a glass candle. Ostensibly this is to humble them and show them that magic is impossible but it makes more sense that the maesters do this to single out people with magical potential and then kill them, since a POV character (Melisandre?) mentions that using glass candles is one of the easiest magics to perform. Isn't Alleras one of the Sand Snakes disguised as a boy? You know since the r other Sand Snakes specifically mention that their little sister Sarella Sand, whose mother is from the Summer Isles, really loves Oldtown and Alleras is half Dornish and half Summer Islander. Not to mention that his name is Sallera spelled backwards. Obviously this is part of a vast Dornish conspiracy to bring about the apocalypse by using magic to move the moon closer to the sun(the symbol of house Martell) which will cause the moon to burst and spill forth a thousand thousand dragons. The Martells want dragons to take over the world because they are all secret Targaryens and love dragons and might be a race of blooddrinking reptillian draganoids disguised as humans. Also Hodor is the prince that was promised and "Hodor" is the true name of the Great Other. The books will end with Hodor defeating the Others by speaking the forbidden true name of their god causing them to melt. He will then be crowned as king of the Hodordom of Hodoria and rule for a 1000 years. FreudianSlippers fucked around with this message at 04:45 on Mar 16, 2015 |

The climax of ASOIAF being a B plot point from one of the worst Final Fantasies would be fitting. Also killing acolytes that are able to light the candles is actually super smart and the humility thing is the perfect cover I will be disappointed if this isn't reality in the next book. There is no book so it is already canon

So it seems that we were just subjected to 2000 or so pages of GRRM's rambling bullshit. There is no hope. Everyone here give the impression that Feast and Dance ARE on that level of lovely writing. I'm at least trying to see if the GRRM is at least somewhat misunderstood as far as the books are concerned. Patchface being the Prince That Was Promised would be loving great. I don't see a problem with tinfoil hat theories in a fantasy world. Its a fantasy world, or just say 'a wizard did it'. It makes some of the inconsistencies and random scenes that seem to have no point make more sense. And Preston is entertaining as gently caress, seems like a nice guy, and loves the stories. I'll take him over Linda Antonssen, a real expert, any loving day. She deserves ten times the hate that GRRM gets, and nowhere near the followers she has on social media. Without the tinfoil it seems the writing is just as lovely as everyone is saying, and the truth is just too depressing...like conspiracy theories in the real world. Grendels Dad posted:A Ditty of Lukewarm and Chilly. Luke pulled up to the station in his 1983 Ford Mustang, killing the sweet roar of the engine with the turn of the key. It was his first day on the job in a new precinct so he wanted to get this right. His last assignment had cost him the life of his partner and earned him time off from the job. That would all change this time. He had a new life in a new place with a new name now. You're still with me, aren't you little buddy? Luke wondered as he pulled the gleaming silver badge from his glove compartment and clipped it onto his button up Hawaiian shirt. He had made certain the collar was popped up and his chest hair well-groomed for his first appearance today. Looking in the rear view mirror, Luke checked his mustache for any donut crumbs and smoothed his mutton chops with a saliva thickened thumb. His smooth, ebony skin glistened from the hot Miami sun but beneath the surface he was only Luke. Luke Warm. *cue awesome 80's porn theme music* Luke stepped out of the Mustang with the dull thud of his cowboy boots beating the hot asphalt like a drum. His Wranglers had not been washed recently but that was just how Luke rolled. Cautious of his swagger, he strutted up to the front door of Miami PD while adjusting his aviators in the direction of any fine ladies that happened out in need of police aid. He'd love to read any of those girls their rights during a sweaty confession but that was just the heat getting to him. I gotta keep it cool Luke thought as he opened the doors to the precinct and strutted in. The rush of cold air compliments of the air conditioning helped, as did the sight of the man standing by what appeared to be his new desk. He was a short man, pale-skinned and fading from his middle years already despite a fairly youthful looking face. His short stature and mustache made him look like a disgruntled walrus but it was his portly figure that really sold it. This man had spent far too much time in the office and too little outside chasing perps. "Detective Warm I presume?" The stout man asked from behind a thick bristled mustache. "Guilty as charged," Luke answered, trying to add some cop humor to the situation. "Are you the chief?" "I'm your new partner, William Stark." Will offered his hand to Luke in an inviting gesture. "But you can call me Chilly." Luke extended his arm and shook Will's hand firmly. *freeze frame on the handshake.* *even slicker and cooler 80's porn music theme as the two go into a montage of running from explosions, sliding over car hoods and eating powdered donuts together*

One of the interesting parts of that dream is that Benjen isn't there but the rest of his family are. Since it's prophetic (he sleeps on Ned's weirwood bed*), that probably means Benjen's still alive. Oh and someone pointed out the stylistic connection between dreams Ned, Cersei and Varamyr have. They all open very similarly: Ned posted:He dreamt an old dream, of three knights in white cloaks, and a tower long fallen, and Lyanna in her bed of blood. Cersei posted:She dreamt an old dream, of three girls in brown cloaks, a wattled crone, and a tent that smelled of death. Varamyr posted:He dreamt an old dream of a hovel by the sea, three dogs whimpering, a woman’s tears. Dreaming an old dream, three figures, a location and a woman, with an aura of pain or death. I guess you could say GRRM is just really lazy but this seems to be deliberate. I guess the dreams all also feature the POVs murdering someone and each time it's never spelt out for the reader - Ned killing the kingsguard, Cersei pushing her friend down a well and Varamyr warging into the dogs to kill his brother. *Similarly, Jaime sleeps on a weirwood stump and has a dream of Casterly Rock Ague Proof fucked around with this message at 05:16 on Mar 17, 2015 |
