If you have overclocks in effect, try scaling back clock speeds. I was crashing repeatedly after the tutorial dream until I scaled it back. What's stable in benchmarks and stress tests may not necessarily mean it's stable in game. After scaling back a little bit, I played 4 hours straight with no crashes.

Jesus christ this game is gorgeous. Something weird going on with graphics though: in cutscenes the game can chug seemingly randomly when the camera changes to certain views. Runs fine in other "shots" and doesn't seem to correlate with the draw distance or characters on screen. Outside of cutscenes it runs like a dream, considering how much fancy lighting and post-processing effects and grass and trees are constantly going on. 40+ fps. But in cutscenes it can randomly drop into the teens. How do I turn off the floaty numbers in combat?

A few hours in and the game has been pretty fun. It does seem a little prone to crashing, but it runs like butter on my 780ti with almost everything maxed. I tried playing with the gamepad but I´m terrible with it so i ended going back to kb+m. The dodge shortcut as left alt is pretty awkward, but I haven´t found any other option that feels better. What are you guys using for dodge? also, I found the crystal raven skull from the opening cinematic

I am loving the new alchemy system its annoying at first to make the potions but restocking them is no problem as you just need alcohol. I've been specialising in signs the shield one is a life saver on the harder difficulties, I may put some points towards bombs and oils. The sword skills as always seem a bit lacking just +attack etc or am I missing something

Also, the low-key music (in White Orchard, not sure if it's the rest of the game) is fantastic, kudos to the composer.

For those of you with a 750ti, I have an 860m which is the mobile version but maxwell. Default settings run fantastic. I turned off ssao for extra fps but it runs and looks great.

My kingdom for a smith/armorer in Velen, my weapons are falling apart and my armor can't be far behind. I saw that there's a whole smithy-looking station with the weapon and armor buff objects in the first village there but there doesn't seem to actually be a smith there. Just recently I ran into some castle cause hey a castle has got to have a smith right and sure there was an armorer there... right behind an apparently locked gate

Not sure it matters in the long run, but at the very start of the game after the intro is finished and you fight some ghouls, use your witcher senses. There's a quest item hidden right alongside the road. edit: Also, I wish picking herbs didn't pop up a loot window. Just send that poo poo straight to your inventory. ymgve fucked around with this message at 13:20 on May 19, 2015 |

I'm digging this alchemy system. A somewhat time-consuming process to make your first batch followed by drinking your sorrows away when you meditate to get them back is great. Though I'm a new babby Witcher so I still only have the starting potion and nothing else yet. Does it just consume one of the alcohol in your inventory to replenish everything, or a bottle for each thing that needs to be refilled?

Also, if you have sticky fingers, alcohol seems pretty common. Basically, ABL (always be looting)! ^^^^^ she's in a hut at the crossroads south of the main White Orchard village. She gets an icon when you get close enough, I think.

I also dropped shadows from Ultra to High because I can't tell the difference. Both of those changes freed up the FPS to turn on HBAO+ which is so much better than SSAO it's worth it. Oooh. This is useful information for my 970. I just turned everything up to Ultra this morning but if I can tinker to get HBAO+ on i'm totally doing that.

Dreylad posted:I gotta say, the execution animations are loving awesome. Yeah, you can get some great moments fighting humans in this. I got into a scrap with some deserters in the woods. Was going at the leader while his buddy was plinking arrows at me. Got tired on that, so I ran toward the bowman, Aard blasted him (deflecting one of his arrows), cut him in half, then turned around and finished off the leader by hamstringing him and then lopping off his head. Then the flaming guitar guy from the Doof Wagon in Mad Max rose up by my window and played a sick riff.

Game is awesome so far. Runs really well on my AMD 6870 and 4 GB of RAM, too. 1080 resolution, some stuff, but not everything, turned off. Still looks gorgeous, I'm impressed. No crashes so far, either. Just the starting area has so much stuff to do and all the quests so far have been really well done. If it can keep this up for the "real" open world... Anyone have tips for setting up kb+mouse controls, though? I find having dodge on Alt means I can't access it easily. I'd use Ctrl instead, but I put the Quick menu there. Also it's hard, after finishing The Witcher 2 a third time this weekend, to unlearn the controls from that game.

I'm really surprised by how well this game is running considering how demanding it is. I've got a Radeon 7950 and it's running smoothly at 1440 with everything set to Ultra (but with hairworks off obviously) Two crashes so far though in about four hours of playing, it seems to lock up randomly on menus.
