It will be interesting, the only thing to compare it to would be the recent GM fine which ended up being less then 1 billion iirc. But that was just shoddy design with inept managers deciding to ignore the issue. What VW did was knowingly make a device to bypass a law set forth by the US and its environmental agencies. There's being grossly incompetent and dumb like GM, then there's actively being malicious.

Didn't Ferrari do the same? They realised the engine compartments were always open for testing and simply put a switch in that changed everything up for when open? What happened to them I don't recall it being much.
