I always wondered what Baragoon's problem with goons was. I see him on /r/starcitizen_trades all the time and he's always raging about goons. Never realized it was because goons called him out on homophobia.

How dull. Usually people have a real reason to hate goons. "You scammed me" or "you ruined xyz game for me." Never "You called me out on being a bigot." Star Citizen continues to underwhelm.

I was pretty much exclusively a redditor but the sub soured by degrees until it became a complete echo chamber. I left when a guy made a thread that literally said "Anyone who complains about this game obviously has little to no money in it- nobody who has truly invested in it has anything bad to say. Show us how much you've spent, doubters. I will buy out the most expensive doubter on the condition that CIG close their account forever." I opened it assuming people would be calling him a loving moron and instead the whole thing was full of people shouting encouragement. I wasn't even particularly anti-SC but I hate blowhards, so I called him on the bluff. He didn't actually bother to verify that I'd ever even criticized the game- he actually took it all the way to CIG. Their response was a literal "We talked to Sandi and we're really sorry, we'd really like to, but we can't." They were extremely apologetic to him that they could not help him use his loving wallet to literally run another person out of their community.

I posted all of this back to the sub and basically got an "Oh well, gently caress you, get out anyway" in response.

That was about when I decided that maybe the reddit SC sub had become a three-ring circus and it was time to get the gently caress out.

Welcome to the verse

One of the earlier streams has them try to make Martin Galway do an irish accent too with Chris Roberts laughing about it, he grew up in Manchester so I dunno.

I don't think I've ever had my writing compared to an ex-cultist before, that's a new angle! Star Citizen was a project that really grabbed my imagination at one point, but never to a fanatical degree. I think it's less that I was deeply into the game and more that I've always tried to understand the position I'm arguing against, as a person actually advocating it would. When I was pro-CIG I really spent a lot of time examining the criticisms, and eventually they became concerning enough and the community got weird enough that I left. Now that I'm pretty anti-CIG, I still work hard to try to understand the optimism of the fan crowd even if I disagree with it. People on the internet now have grown up without ever having to really exist around anyone they disagree with, and that has had a very isolating effect on communities. I try to bridge that gap.

Hmm, in topics I actually care about I find temperance and empathy valuable goals. Here, though, it just feels like any actual time spent empathetically considering these people is damning ourselves in affording them a shred of legitimacy

I'm really not up to speed with the game or the drama, I honestly thought the PU stuff looked pretty cool. However, the few seconds of FPS footage that they tacked on to the press demo looked like poo poo. It was objectively worse than at pax nearly a year ago. Regardless of whether or not CIG are about to run out of money and/or cocaine, after a year of work it should look better than that. What they hell have they been doing?

You're saying all the people who think it was all perfectly planned only need to look at the released cutscene to realise Roberts & Co couldn't direct an emotional scene if their life depended on it.
Well it was a poorly planned attempt to reestablish any community good-will by crying crocodile tears over Derek Smart as all other options had died. It'll go down as some of the most pathetic pandering ever done by a VP in order to maintain any credibility in backing a white elephant.

The Dirtiest Harry posted:

What they hell have they been doing?
Believing in the old adage of "we'll ditch everything and re-do it because it will be faster and we won't make the same mistakes twice!" while making all the same mistakes again, only amplified as Roberts increasingly tries to control everything by himself across three countries and a dwindling team of devs because "he's kinda like George Lucas".

And when things lag behind and industry veterans dare speak their mind about the Chairman's interference they get told to walk the plank.
Rookies then get promoted to be project leads and they have no experience to think independently and fear directly speaking up (as it took out their boss) so wait days for Roberts to check something for approval and then have to change things based off shonky photoshopped mockups.

Keep in mind Roberts thinks today's technologies can do everything out of the box and within two years. He likely saw the Aircraft Carrier attack in Crysis and thought "yes, that's my next game!"

He hates programming and hated how when he was working on Freelancer got bogged down in the tech limits of the day trying to realize his vision. No doubt he's upset and confused to why it hasn't actually changed much in the year 2015 and doesn't listen to the devs who tell him all the cool poo poo he saw on that carrier was well done smoke and mirrors where the player is largely on a rail.
Roberts wants to remove that rail and doesn't see why that isn't an issue.

And I bet he still walks in at 2pm and expects everyone to have solved that bug from yesterday.

Longer answer:

-They have repeatedly missed deadlines by 6-12 months
-They have repeatedly broken promises concerning the nature of pledging/pledge ships
-They have show little to no progress in actual development work
-Their latest reveal, CitizenCon, which happened yesterday, featured a buggy unplayable mess that was somehow praised by the brainwashed cult community
-Chris Roberts is hell-bent on making a movie rather than a video game
-Play Pulsar: Lost Colony, Angel's Fall First, Elite: Dangerous, literally any game other than this.

I said it before for a long time I thought the rumours and criticism of Sandi Gardiner might have been just because she was female. I later came to doubt that.

But still if you ignore all the rumours of hiring practices, toxic work enviroment, screaming, eye rolls, firings, if you ignore imdb, ignore season 2 of reverse the verse and the ending of wingman's hangar. Ignore holidays and photos being taken while people are different places, ignore a personal facebook page being used to release new content to real content starved fans in this "open development" game. Ignore game development shifting from Austin to the more expensive LA and ignore a yearly live stream event for thousands of nerds being taken over at the very start by a weird pointless speech that resulted in the "it's not a secret!" comment and ended with a gift of flowers.

Ignore all of that and that single image tells you everything you need to know about $91 million Star Citizen game and the actress Sandi Gardiner.

In fairness to Sandi, she is provably Hollywood-grade material at several non-acting traits that are pretty crucial to make it to the top in the movie business. Raging insecurity, a willingness to gently caress a really gross old man with a monied production company, being willing to trample on production assistants and then fire them for disloyalty, expensive tastes, a good coke connection, a rabid hunger for top billing on the marqee and is totally comfortable working on a production where nobody is going to make a dollar if they are hoping to come out ahead on a cut of the net profits.

poo poo, Anne Hathaway made TMZ this morning just for sending back a poached egg breakfast four times. Meanwhile Sandi Garnder made people pay to listen to her congratulate herself in a speech right out of "Showgirls" and then asked them for money in the next breath, from a group of people she knows to be largely unemployed!

She has the chops is what I'm saying.

You're literally bitching because they put together this little trailer for SQ42 instead of handing you the full and completed and polished cutscene from the game. This is why CIG has hidden more and more over the years. Because no matter what they show people like you can never grasp the simple concept that -IT IS NOT loving DONE-.

Off the RSI forums on a thread criticizing Gary Oldman's "rousing" speech. I dunno, I'd expect them to put at least as much effort as any company would at E3 for their own loving convention and maybe finish a two minute cutscene.
