Man the VHÖL album is kind of weird with it's mid song guitar sound changes. Kind of like if Yes played Prog/Thrash?

Graveyard added some more dates

Wow! I don't realize VHÖL featured Mike from Yob?!?! I enjoyed their first album, but this one sounds even better. It's so hard to pigeonhole them into one genre black/crust/prog metal. I can see them being the Yes of thrash. Also looking forward to seeing Yob in a few weeks.

Based off their groovy new album, I'm gonna try to catch Graveyard on this tour. They're the soundtrack to the 70s cop drama porn in my mind.

Their last album, Heady Mental, was one of my favorites from 2013. They've come so far from their early stuff that I don't even know how you would classify them. I always tell people they sound like John McLaughlin and Eddie Van Halen jamming with Hawkwind.

Holy poo poo yes. That was a lesson I did not want to learn. Honestly, not only would I have saved my hearing, I bet it would have sounded better as well.

If you're going to shows, especially this kind of music, without at least some kind of hearing protection, you're kind of really stupid. Don't let any kind of thought like others at the show might think you're a wuss or something ridiculous like that keep you from protecting yourself from going deaf. You'll be happy down the road that you can still hear, plus I think it actually does sound better with something in versus just listening to it without plugs. Seems like it cuts down on excess fuzziness or whatever you want to call it.

And Thursday night is going to kill. Can't wait to see Yob again and get back into the city for a few days. Going to Martyrdom on Saturday, too. Gonna be a good weekend, I think.

Dyna Soar

I didn't know there were still people in the year 2015 who go to shows that play music at around the decibel amount that can seriously damage your hearing and don't wear plugs.

Seriously, get plugs. Even relatively good ones don't cost that much. Then if you want to get some real good ones, there are plugs that basically just cut out ~20 decibels without affecting the sound much at all. Those cost more, could be hundreds of dollars but theyre molded based on your ear canal and will last for decades (altho you should wash em time to time, hah).

The guy stood next to me at the last Sunn O))) show I went to wasn't wearing plugs, I can only assume he was already deaf and just there for the physical sensation. This is the same show where a couple people fainted, one of the stage security guys had to leave halfway through with a nosebleed, and the next day's running was delayed while they repaired the PA system. Wear your ear protection, friends.

Happy ears are good reusable earplugs. I just broke my etymotics er-20s after years of service and decided to try something new.

I'm impressed with the happy ears although I feel like the etymotics didn't lose as much fidelity around the mid range.

soooooo this was awesome and the venue (924 Gilman in Berkeley) was pretty amazing, too. They even finished up with some covers, including Nirvana's Milk and their cover-of-a-cover of In the Pines. Then I bought some albums and talked to the band outside like a total fangirl, where the drummer from The Body told me that they had a collaborative show the next night in Oakland. So we saw that too, and it was awesome despite some sound/electrical problems and a generally stuffier/sweatier place (+ being a bit too drunk from finding beer more interesting than food earlier that night). They closed with a few more covers, mostly notably Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, which is one of my partner's favorite songs. Kataklysm and Behemoth were playing in the main room, but I didn't catch much.

So basically it was amazing and intense.

Thanks! We now have a Metallum page and were featured on Doomed and Stoned, all thanks to total strangers. Someone even put the album on YouTube and what.cd, in case you want to pirate a free album in FLAC form I guess. The Facebook page only has 73 likes but they're from all over the world.
