Get ready to get hosed WA football, Freo and West Coast!http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-02-08/wa-footy-misses-out-contract-to-run-new-perth-stadium posted:
If I was Freo and WC I wouldn't sign any long term contracts and I'd make sure subi is available as a fallback option. Does this poo poo ever not end up worse off for the clubs?

What is actually stopping the WAFC who own Perth Stadium Managment, the WAFL and the Eagles/Freo from just going "well, you guys have fun with your empty stadium... we're just going to be chilling over here in Subi"? Other than the whole "cutting off nose to spite face" thing. I can't wait to discover how the operators of noted amazing-AFL-Dream-ground ANZ Stadium manage to run the new Perth Cake Tin into the ground. When you actually sit down and read how the league was run and how premierships were actually won in the first 30 odd years its a wonder we still count them.

It is a very Richmondesque act to somehow lose the premiership while winning the final match. And yeah, given how wonky the whole timeline is and SANFL WAFL flags aren't recognised etc, it makes sense to start counting premierships from the start of the AFL in 1990 I'd think

Sydney are going to have Goodes do a lap of honour in their second home game of the season because the first one is against collingwood at ANZ stadium and gently caress that for a farewell

On one level you could say that it's letting idiots win by giving into them, but honestly gently caress that. Adam Goodes is a loving legend of the game, a guaranteed hall of famer, and an amazing person outside of footy, and he deserves to say goodbye to his fans without being booed by a bunch of stupid loving hicks.

Yeah, Subiaco is relatively close to the city but its on the western side, the WACA is the one you can see in the photo which is East Perth. The new location though basically has nothing established nearby except for the casino, whereas Subi has a big bar and restaurant strip right next to it. They are building a new train station next to the new stadium as well but it will all take a while to establish anything else, the whole area is basically a bunch of empty lots looking over a train line and hills to the east at this point.

Apart from blatant corruption and profiteering is there any reason why they didn't just gradually upgrade Subi instead of spending 1b+ on building a totally new stadium? Edit: LOL as if there is anything but corruption and profit driving government decisions.
