The other ones you start with conceal involve killing everything or doing something that I'm pretty sure breaks concealment. Am I wrong? The only situation I can think of that doesn't involve blowing up aliens or alien arrays is "download the data and beat it" and I wanna say downloading the data makes the aliens realize somebody is loving around out here.

You don't need your entire squad in concealment to avoid enemy pods, just your scout.

I'm playing on Veteran and have completed all timed missions within 3 turns without trying too had. I played a ton of XCOM EU/EW, but I still feel that as long as you learn to play aggressively the timers aren't terrible and actually add something to the game. I think a sense of urgency in combat helps balance out a lot of stuff too so straight up removing the timers is a mistake, IMO.

The funny thing about these procedural maps is that the only one I felt was really bad wasn't actually procedurally generated. It was a massive set piece that takes up almost the entire map, so it might as well be static. I found this out when I saw the set piece again.

If you're wondering its a slums map with a massive bridge crossing the middle. The covers awful, the sight lines make sneaking hard, and making it to the objective without tripping over every pod on the map is stupidly hard.

I love that map piece, or, at least the 3 times I got it the poo poo under the freeway was completely different every time and it was a pretty fun vertical element for those missions.

That's kind of ugly. Kinda makes me want to make a version that completely removes the default health display and uses numbers on icons, Hearthstone style.

A better way to do it would be to have red armor-like pips that stand for 10 health that break into a normal bar once you hit them.

My Sniper meanwhile missed a 90% shot and a 95% shot. He has done this three missions in a row (though he has a superior stock now so it could be worse).

I honestly have no idea why you would ever use a sniper rifle dedicated unit in XCOM 2. Needle is a goddamn hero and saved all those civilians.

My sharpshooter sniper has the most kills on my roster with 34 in 14 missions on Veteran. I think they really benefit from having a scope because Deadeye has the aim penalty, and as you said missing a shot can be heartbreaking. I had a backup squaddie sniper miss a 90% full flank sniper shot from an elevated position at a range of like 6 tiles. I decided to make him my gunslinger!

Kill Zone is also a great ability when ambushing. There's a weird bug with it though, where the delay during the slow motion is huge so the whole process takes a minute or so of watching him slowly take aim and blast aliens.

Not just enough damage, only bluescreen rounds and emp.

For a whopping -5 per hit. Luckily, there's a mod on the workshop that makes the hack defense decrease more prominent.

Yeah, EU/EW over time became a lot like memorizing side scroller events and levels. XCOM 2 is much more concerned about skill as a result due to randomization making memorization irrelevant mostly.

I think on a mission with a VIP to kill or capture that the VIP had a sight radius when I was concealed and got close. So knocking it out wouldn't be possible without blowing concealment (need to get within radius) and attacks would reveal the squad. I mostly remember the events after that part of the mission though where as I was fighting a pod that dropped between me and the evac zone two more pods of advent including a lone soldier that had run away for help earlier dropped in from the glass ceiling like they're screaming "FBI, GET DOWN NOW."

ADVENT can make some pretty awesome entrances once in a while like that which I honestly don't remember from XCOM EU/EW, wish I had recorded that entrance somehow. Hell, I want to make that entrance to surprise a pod, dammit.

Man am I regretting not turning off the killcam earlier, so many of my performance issues went away once I switched it off. Assuming they do a EU type expansion I have to wonder what they could put in. At the very least the avenger would need another level. Defensive matrix seems like such an afterthought after the first hunting the Avenger dark event I have never seen it again. Maybe if it let me do strafing runs on grounded ufos or something. I just don't see myself rushing it for that mission.

I have had this one psi ops guy constantly training and he now has almost every ability (only 1 left). These guys are completely ridiculous, he passively has immunity to all environmental/poison damage, can revive from death once every mission with a stasis field (plus other BS). I used Null lance to decimate 3 pods simultaneously from concealment with the help of a well-placed proximity mine. He then proceeded to mind control a berserker and it went on a rampage knocking people out.

I think I've gotten really lucky 3 times with the AWC:

1. My Gunslinger got RUN AND GUN which is incredibly synergistic with Lightning Hands and Faceoff (and just feels great).
2. My Combat Specialist got Untouchable which triggers on Combat Protocol.
3. My Assault ranger got SERIAL (refunds ALL actions with every assault rifle kill) which is just overpowered as hell in conjunction with a ton of Assault abilities. With Implacable, Untouchable, Run and Gun, and Shadowstep, he's singlehandedly taken out entire pods many times. Reaper or Rapid fire was a hard choice for his final ability though. Thank you RNG god

Has anyone else gotten some amazing ability combos from AWC?

I don't think that's possible at all because I can't think of any missions that start out with you in concealment that don't also force you to fight.

Beating a mission without actually needing to kill any enemy pods should be possible, though, but again probably only on VIP escort missions. I can't think of any other mission type where it would be even close to possible.
