I'm not the kind of person to criticize gun realism in fiction too often, but even at a glance those guns are nonsense.

Oh, most def. I was just going along with the theme. I'd like to have seen a sequel or remake with current Bungie with today's tech but I doubt that would ever happen.

There's still bad Bomberman box art out there! And while we're on the subject of TurboGrafx, let's get some FatMarines up in here: And this is just... weird. Somebody else posted it on the second page, so I want to give credit to them for unearthing it first. naM sdrawkcaB posted:A personnel favorite: And finally, the name says everything you need to know about the game. Septerra Core is special because not only did the cover come from the era when people thought bad shiny CGI art looked presentable enough to be on the cover (gotta justify the money spent on that hardware from SGI I guess) but the entire game looked like that. The entire game was prerendered sprites and images made in exactly the same style as the cover. Bleeeeech

There's that 90's SGI look that pops up in so many places. To contribute, this game: Because this when it was localized:

Yeah that's the poo poo. The N64 existed smack-dab in the middle of the era when people thought that poo poo looked good so you'd better believe that drat near every box looked like that Not all of the covers you'll find in that style are even bad but I loving hate that style

At least those are hand-drawn instead of being thrown together in 3DS Max by someone with no sense of aesthetics and then rendered on maximum shiny Edit: I don't actually know how people made those CGI covers but I'm sure I'd be distressed to learn how much effort and manpower it took to make that crap back then

I mean, we're still sort of in that era; it's just CGI artists have gotten much better.

Shadow Hog posted:I mean, we're still sort of in that era; it's just CGI artists have gotten much better. I think there's an element of that since the artists now have years or decades of experience instead of months. But also, people were so excited about the technology in the mid to late 90s that they'd throw up the first turd that popped out of the renderer instead of actually thinking about what looks good. I think there was a feedback loop of there being so much crappy CGI box art out there that devs felt they had to do CGI themselves to look technologically up to date, which just put more poo poo box art out there.

It was almost like they were afraid 3D might become a gimmick that didn't stick if they didn't really push the concept.
