I just watched the first season of The Almighty Johnsons, which is a show from New Zealand about Norse Gods reincarnating into certain families. Really liked it!

I enjoyed the first season but I just found the characters and the show progressively more insufferable with each new episode this latest season, to the point that I was rooting for the stuck up rear end in a top hat rich lady. The only parts I really liked were the Dune cosplay ones.

Yeah I would say I agree with this. And even if you didn't like the characters I can't imagine rooting for Blonde Katie Aselton who was awful in every way. Finale was one of the weaker episodes but I still got pretty emotional because I'm gonna miss those characters dammit

I disagree. The pilot does a shitload of setup. Also remember, it's a 30 min drama.

It may feel boring because the color palette is muted and it looks like it was directed by Tom Hooper. By that, I mean lots of closeups and a static camera.

I heard it wasn't that great overall but I guess 10 episodes at half an hour seems like a relatively easier ask to go through.

That's a great show, I really enjoyed it. We got hooked when Syfy showed the first season, so looked up the rest of it. There are only three seasons but they're all pretty good and it wraps up fairly well (there's the obvious plot hook for the 4th season that never came, but other than that it's satisfactory).

I'm 3 episodes into The Girlfriend Experience and I really like it. The lead is really good, and the fact she looks a bit like Kristen Stewart constantly keeps me on edge. There's actually not that much sex, less than season 1 of Game of Thrones.

The cinematography and sound design remind me a lot of Mr. Robot.

The Magicians finale (which is airing right now) had a pretty funny moment where they explicitly state that they wanted to have a castle in a scene but ran out of money, so now it's invisible.

I've been enjoying it, everything is very snarky (see previous comment about the invisible castle.) They like to pick and chose what they took from the book so things are different but the same. For example, Josh doesn't show up until the second to the last episode of the season, they expand Penny's part and add in a new female character. Also they roll Julia's stuff in so it happens concurrently instead of in flashbacks.

Halfway through Season 2 where they defeated the big bad and averted the apocalypse and everything was fine.

So with the short Season 1 you could say that Sleepy Hollow basically had 1 great regular length season.

Tonight's episode was fun IMO. I mean it's not high art but it always manages to be entertaining, which is something most shows have trouble doing. Of course it has its own flaws and (no pun intended) blindspots, but most shows do, or just that you don't like certain writing/stylistic/other choices it makes sometimes. But on the whole if you are looking for a more action-oriented cop-ish show you could do worse.

Ha ha ha, last night’s episode of Blindspot was SO bad!

Patterson’s dead boyfriend somehow figured out one of Jane’s tattoos and set up a birthday scavenger hunt for Patterson. She starts hallucinating him and talking with him throughout this episode.

That leads to probably the worst part about it. The “dead guy hallucination conversation” is a device used in a lot of TV shows. However, most of the shows try to avoid the live person engaging in extended conversation with thin air in public places, and they also pretty much never have the live person somehow COMPLETLEY FORGET that the dead person is in fact dead and not there at all.

First Patterson leaps onto a fire escape to climb up to her dead boyfriend's apartment to look for the second clue, which pulls out of the wall a bit and almost makes her fall, to add pointless jeopardy to a situation which didn’t need pointless jeopardy because there was zero chance she would fall to her death anti-climatically. It did, however, cause her phone to LEAP from her pocket and do an elegant triple flip before smashing onto the pavement, blatantly foreshadowing that she would be needing the phone later.

A couple clues later, Patterson goes back to the FBI at 2 AM to look at the tattoo database, and then figures out what the clue means. Then, Patterson decides to go out and investigate this clue all on her own without telling anyone, or leaving any notes. She was right there in the FBI office and had plenty of opportunity to contact someone or leave a note. There was also no urgency to follow up on that tattoo right away.

She had apparently completely forgotten that the reason her dead boyfriend is a DEAD boyfriend was that he decided to follow up on one of these highly-dangerous tattoos all on his own. So she ends up in an antique shop before opening hours and she spills to the owner that she was led here on a scavenger hunt, somehow also forgetting that the common theme of these tattoos is they lead to DANGEROUS THINGS.

Then surprise, the owner was a bad guy and kidnaps her. This, by the way, means that Patterson’s blatant phone destruction and obvious foreshadowing of later danger was completely loving unnecessary since the bad guy could just have taken it after kidnapping her.

Patterson was left tied up in the basement, and she actually chastises her hallucination for leading her into a dangerous situation, and asks the hallucination for help getting herself freed. That’s right, she has completely loving forgotten that he is dead and not real. And she did that several times. Most sane people don’t hallucinate dead people talking to them, and the ones which do rarely manage to completely forget that the person is in fact dead. I mean, come on.

***

I will say that I did like the refreshing twist where the other agent being threatened and blackmailed into doing things for once decided to NOT follow instructions and destroy the image of Jane's secret handler and admit to his boss that he's being threatened and blackmailed.

I also like that all the tattoos have the common theme of leading the team to uncover government corruption, they aren't just leading to random unconnected criminal gangs.

But still, please, don't have the highly intelligent analyst act so stupidly and actually forget that the person she's having a long conversation with is a hallucination and not actually there. That just does not work.
