I'm going to go with a combination of Williams riding the tyre pressure limits and a manufacturing error for my guess. Seems like there was a problem with the wheel rim both times. AFAIK teams manufacture/buy the rims from different suppliers so there shouldn't be any other teams in trouble. Magnussen just got a puncture from debris.

IMO there's kinda two separate questions, between "are the cars too easy to drive" and "are the front-running cars so superior that anyone competent could win races in them". The second question is kind of true in this case, Mercedes' advantage is right up there with the MP4/2 or early 2000s Ferrari at the moment.
