How many variations can you come up with for "name a blind female author"?

Why was Emily Dickinson one of the two names that should've come to mind? I didn't think she was blind &/or suffered any severed ocular troubles?

One could argue that Dickinson's poems had a certain... preoccupation with death.

Do the contestants usually know a lot about sports? I seem to remember them doing badly, but I might just be thinking of the 'power players' week where nobody even knew who Cam Newton is.

Yeah, this. The stereotype is most Jeopardy contestants couldn't know less about sports and leave it until the last category, although the questions are relatively easy to get, at least in my opinion. There's the ur-example of Jeopardy "villain" champ Arthur Chu hitting a Daily Double in a Sports Category, betting only $5, and then immediately saying I don't know after the clue was revealed to get it out of the way, even though I thought it was answerable in context. Dude said he never bothered studying about sports during his prep for being on the show too. Colonial Air Force posted:While I did play Communist France in Hearts of Iron.... Also, anyone else notice that Trebek referencing his mother as "late" during the contestant interview segment with Sharon during the episode that aired on Thursday? I remember him wishing her a happy birthday on an episode that aired a couple months back, so she must've passed only a couple months after that, going off of when this episode was likely being taped. Shame, I remember him talking about her to the audience when we were taping my episode 2 and a half years back. The last clue in the Spanish Inquisition category on Friday's episode was good for a laugh. "Who will pay for the wall?" indeed. Still, that got a bunch of Trumpistas in the Jeopardy FB peanut gallery moaning about how Jeopardy was in the tank for Hillary in the election or whatever because of that reference. Whatever. There were also people still salty about that kid getting penalized for misspelling "Emancipation" two years back in the teen tournament bitching about it because of the answer to Final Jeopardy as well... Ugh. Oh, and apparently the Teen Tournament starts on the Wednesday after Election Day? It's probably why they're starting it in the middle of the week, don't want to get preempted for election coverage or whatever. Never seen a tournament started in the middle of the week before...

Is it just me, or was that a poorly worded final Jeopardy? I think the way it was worded meant you really couldn't rule out the Great Wall of China as humans are living creatures, although obviously the wall isn't a Natural Wonder.

That one kid could have wagered nothing and come from last place to the finals. Same thing happened in the quarters. He was way behind but won when the other two bet big and lost.

i thought the rule was about missing or adding a syllable not having an extra letter. i dunno if adding one letter is spelling it "badly". i've seen people get away with worse. gently caress there was that moon landing one (i think it was) where they brought people back because they said the clue was worded weirdly when it was actually easy to parse and the third place person got it right.
