I obviously love this game a whole lot but will readily agree that I'm still not sure why this game needed to be in another galaxy rather than just an isolated and unexplored region of the milky way aside from trying to avoid having to canonize the original trilogy

How did they make the Sarah Ryder face so incredible weird and awkward? It's like when in LA Noire they were boasting about their super realistic face mo-cap tech but all it boiled down to was the NPC/actors making over exaggerated facial movements.

I assumed LA Noire actors were told to overact to make sure they got the performance, or alternately to make sure all the autistic gaming community was able to tell if they were lying.

But the animation itself was fantastic; even the best handmade face animations look partially paralyzed in comparison.

There are some awkward sounding voicefiles from Liara because RyderDad thought she was such a great archeologist everyone on the project needed to read all of her journals before coming out. Bear in mind that they left shortly after the events of ME1 so she is still the junior archaeologist who got stuck in a bubble and then killed her mom at this point. Seems pretty chirpy despite that.

Oh, I dunno. With Gil you learn that he's a hopeless wreck that has no sense of purpose. That was a good first conversation. "Hi I'm your mechanic and chief engineer and I feel like my life is going nowhere. Please, leave me so I can get wasted instead of ensuring your ship runs well."

It is inevitable!
One thing that bugs me.

On a mission, my crew get along
When I wander the tempest, they joke and tease each other, but they get along. (Except for Gil and Kallo)
When I call a staff meeting, everything turns into a massive shitshow and they make each other and me look like idiots.

Beyond that, still fun. The aliens are definately uninspired, but it continues to be good times to explore and fight in.

Vidcard Drivers up to date?

Start up in windowed mode and then try changing back to fullscreen once in the game.

Recheck/initialize your download. You might need to reinstall.

The companion quality of these games really took a poo poo after 2. Even the (non human) companions from ME1 were vastly more interesting than anything in 3 or Andromeda. 2 had a reptile assassin (Thane), A powerful biotic with a dark and mysterious past (Jack), a cool as hell robot (Legion) etc. 3 brought back a bunch of characters from the first game, including the worst characters from the first game (Kaiden/Ashley), James Vega (who?) and a robot with breasts. I'm sure the characters in Andromeda will get somewhat more interesting as I pursue their various loyalty missions and whatnot, but on the surface they are all boring as poo poo so far. I was hoping that they were just front loading the game with the boring companions, but then I found out all I had left to find was the new alien guy which is pretty disappointing.

Edit: I like the old man Krogan so far though.

Javik wasn't interesting?

Vega's fine, he's just introduced so late that it's hard to care about him. He's better than the human companions in 1 or either of the Cerberus ones in 2. EDI's problem is that half of her character is unoriginal but decent robot-learning-about-humanity stuff and half of it is Joker wanting to bang her.

I dunno, PB's intro was fitting for her regardless of how you feel about what her character actually is, and mr badass krogan got a fittingly fun intro including originally being all 'yea man whatever when the sky is clean and the enemies are dead I'll totally join you' and then going to 'oh...well then ok let's gently caress stuff up'.

The others, yea, you kinda gotta do their convos and all to get them more fleshed out than 'HELLO RYDER I AM YOUR NEW COMPANION I USE [INSERT COMBAT STYLE HERE]'

Eh, I think ME3 and DA:I had solid rosters of characters, Javik is one of my favorite companions in any bioware game. I also think ME1 was pretty weak outside of Wrex though ME2 retroactively makes some of them better. ME2 really stands because its fundamentally a game that focuses on your companions so it manages to have a larger roster and give everyone their due.

So far, just got to my ship. This game feels like I'm playing through the studio's animatic of a very sloppy first draft script. It's pretty rough going.

Definitely feeling like they needed to kill some darlings, here. It's really half-baked.

What kind of black screen? Can you alt tab out of it and do other stuff, or is your screen completely black, as in, it looks like your monitor is off and not receiving a signal, and even hitting the monitor's power switch doesn't do anything?

If it's the latter, try unplugging your monitor from the power outlet, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in again. I had that, and that fixed it for me (and now that I'm in borderless mode, I can alt tab without problems). No idea what caused it, and I had the same problem with Battlefield 1, but whatever it's fixed I guess

I've tried adding both MEA and Origin as non-steam games but that doesn't work. I've also tried already being logged on to origin on my pc when I start it. Basically most of the suggestions you can find through a Google search.

Man, some of this poo poo is straight up revisionism. Jack was AWFUL in ME2 - some Goth Topic chick with anger issues. Dark and Mysterious past :rolleye: Thane was whatever, I didn't really care for him. I didn't think he was interesting.

Legion was dope but there wasn't much to him (but he was still dope, so yeah okay), and EDI was actually pretty dope, too, aside from the subplot about falling in love or whatever.

Jack had a solid arc over two games, Miranda was dope, Wrex/Grunt/Mordin was dope, Jacob was like the only normal (not haunted by anything in particular) person in ME2 and then got super uninteresting in ME3, and Vega in 3 was better than Jacob was in 2 but who the gently caress cares about a new vanilla human squaddie coming in at the rear end end of the trilogy?

ME1 has the benefit of being the first in the series, so all the weird aliens that join your team feel fresh and interesting. I liked Garrus, but they definitely made him better in 2. When I first heard about this game I figured we'd end up with a party full of weird new aliens from this completely new galaxy, so it is pretty lame to find out that there is only 1 companion of a new race that joins your party.
