Redline is 5k, you bet I'll scare you with that noise if you can't get on the highway correctly.

I knew a mechanic who swapped his motor and I guess motor mounts to place the engine behind his front axle. You know that meme about vegans going out of their way to announce they're vegan... He did that but to tell people his Jeep was mid-engine.

I don't talk about my jeep much irl, but I do light people up on on ramps on a regular basis. Slow merges piss me off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaUyizH1lLE&t=20s Dump truck's going at about 5mph on the highway without flashers or any other indicator, gets rear-ended by a tanker truck full of gasoline which instantly turns into a big FAE. I can't figure out how the dump truck driver was the casualty while the tanker driver survived.

I had a some guy lane split between me and another car the other day. Unremarkable, except I and the car next to me were going roughly 65 mph at the time, the bike that split us was a Harley (with passenger, no helmets for either), and I live in WI, where it's not even close to legal.

Wow, so apparently lovely motorcyclists are striking everywhere lately. Just had some middle-aged guy on a cruiser (obviously not paying attention) almost rear-end me in slow traffic. Then he went off the deep end and started screaming at me while trying to grab or punch me through my open window. Apparently not controlling the speed of traffic in front of me to accommodate his going 50+ in a 25 MPH zone is covered under the "share the road" bumper sticker campaign.

Some little shitbag was walking up the middle of my street with a slingshot shooting rocks at parked cars/building windows as I pulled up to my house. The second I yelled at him he bolted down an alley and was gone. I hope he runs out in front of a truck.

Flint Ironstag posted:I got an instant justice type of video for a bad driver that we share the roads with yesterday morning. Speeding in a school zone in Texas? Not a good idea. I like the flashing yellow lights in the school zone that let you know unambiguously that it is an active school zone, and you need to obey the lower limit. Arizona also has those (and some other states) but California does not. KRON's Stanley Roberts recently had a People Behaving Badly segment that involved a school zone, and I commented about how I thought California should adopt those lights in schools zones since I thought they were helpful in Arizona, and some guy was arguing with me that they aren't needed. Well screw that guy, I like them and still think California ought to have them.

So are California school zones just reduced speed 24/7 or what? Everywhere I have been the signs have specific and kinda random hours depending on what time the school starts, sometimes the list of poo poo is long with different hours on different days of the week or an exclusion for summer, it's a lot easier to just look for lights instead of trying to decipher the wall of text at 40mph. And well, Cali seems like a nanny state in every other way.

This is a real thing in a lot of places, and for some stupid loving reason it can be legally enforced. How anyone is expected to know what "restricted hours" means is an exercise for the reader. I agree about the flashing lights, they are definitely the best answer.

ffs this isn't rocket science. Places all over the globe use flashing lights for critical infrastructure, it's okay guys! Why would anyone argue against a thing that removes all ambiguity just because it has a very, very small chance of failing for a short time?

It's even worse here in Ohio, where this is literally written into the law: Ohio Revised Code 4511.21 posted:Nothing in this section or in the manual and specifications for a uniform system of traffic control devices shall be construed to require school zones to be indicated by signs equipped with flashing or other lights, or giving other special notice of the hours in which the school zone speed limit is in effect. Leaves everything ambiguous about when they can cite you for violating the school zone. I always tread lightly in school zones even if the lights are off.

Around here, most school zones are also playground zones which are 30 from sunrise to an hour after sunset. There's a school zone along a 100kph highway that has a sign a km before with all the times posted, and 2 lights and another sign that lists the times it's in effect because when it's not, people still get scared and slow down to 30kph in what is now a 100kph zone. When it is, people who get nailed doing 100(or more accurately, 110 which is what the highway flows at) get hit with doing 80 over the speed limit, which gets you a mandatory court appearance and all sorts of stuff. I would far prefer they just made the whole area 50kph with a regular school zone sign so you don't have half of the people doing 30kph and the other half doing 100kph at noon every sunday. The way it is now makes people do dumb poo poo, and lets the local cop milk the gently caress out of people on school holidays. Really there's enough room to put a service road and enough paved roads circling the school that they could keep the highway 100, have the service road be the school zone road, and make sure buses never have to stop on the highway to wait to turn left across traffic but i guess kids aren't THAT worth keeping alive.

Unfortunately doing things right costs money, where arbitrarily dropping limits and sticking a cop there can easily pay for itself.
