The goals thing on Patreon is a trap for the artist. It just tempts them into promising a level of output they can't reach, and it doesn't really help them get more money. Whether or not there's a stretch goal is much less important to a potential donor's contribution compared to the reward tiers. A lot of artists scale back the goals over time as they realised that fulfilling them is unsustainable.

i think the stretch goal deal makes more sense when it's things like 'at this point i don't have to run ads,' 'at this point i can make this my primary job,' 'at this point i could hire someone to do x,' and stuff like that.
