I don't think it's ever been clear exactly how it works. After getting what I think might be a reasonable understanding of who/what exactly Dougie is, I read it as evil coop put it on him so that when good coop came out he would be drawn to that body?

I will just be happy when I can buy a soundtrack with all of them. I'm really hoping that they have a Julee Cruise one at some point, and I really want to hear the entirety of the American Woman remix.

Don't know the songs names, but two of the bands are "Chromatics" and "The Cactus Blossoms" and I can tell you the third in a little bit after I'm finished watching the 4th episode for the second time tonight.

One armed man is kind of an rear end in a top hat, too. Coop tells her "Don't take the ring." so it must have some kind of drawback. Maybe it protects you from Bob because Mike already has you? I don't know either. Also, I got a HUGE question about the glass box project in the first episode. Who the heck is running that operation, the Illuminati?

I just finished watching episode 4. Man, was that more Lynchian than I could've possibly hoped for :allears: It's way less original series and way more FWWM/Mulholland Drive/Lost Highway/Blue Velvet and I am totally okay with that. The "pure heroin version of David Lynch" comment was spot on especially with stuff like the creepy demon spirit in the glass box that's going to be in my nightmares tonight and the entire first 10 minutes of episode 3.

While it's pretty far from most of the tone from the original series, the humor has not been lost. Everything with Dougie at the casino and his house had me laughing uncontrollably, as did the Wally scene, although that was painfully awkward and I hope he's not in the remainder of the season much.

I've seen 4 episodes of this show so far and I feel like I have barely any more answers to the questions I had at the end of Season 2/FWWM than when I started, and not only that but lots more questions have been raised, so thanks David!

Oh god, that remix was so loving unsettling :ohdear: Perfect atmosphere for that scene.

drat that was good. I straight up gasped when we got our first look at doppelganger Cooper. Maybe part of that was just the hair but I want to say the buildup with the music and atmosphere was part of it too. Good poo poo.

Michael Cera's one innocuous scene managing to be the most bizarre part of the 4 eps is probably my favourite thing so far.

My comment as soon as the drums started playing was "Cool, looks like they got Rammstein back for the soundtrack." Guess I was wrong about that... (I know Rammstein wasn't in the original soundtrack, I was thinking about Lost Highway.)

Speaking of things being carried over from other Lynch shows, am I crazy or was the nightmare demon lady from Mulholland Drive also in the start of episode 2?

Or are those different characters? They just looked really similar to me. I was thinking "Wow, does all Lynch's stuff actually exist in the same universe or something?" when I saw that.

they dont look that similar to me, but i have heard apocryphally that Lynch said Lost Highway and Twin Peaks were in the same universe. I've never actually found a source for it, just people saying that he said it.

My general impressions: It is much more dark and horrifying than the original series, more along the lines of Fire Walk With Me and other Lynch bizarre nightmare-scapes. But it does have some bits of bizarre humor which are wonderful. And it still does the same thing as the original series where you get some hilarious and funny moments that are immediately followed by something horrifying, or horrifying moments that are immediately followed but something funny, light-hearted, or endearing so that you are constantly thrown off-guard.

Also the dedications in the credits to people who aren't around to be part of it. <sniffle>

I don't know, I was really confused about who or what exactly that was. I know Mulholland Drive was originally supposed to be something about Audrey Horne, so would have been in the same world, but it's really hard to know exactly what is "cannon" in any of Lynch's stuff.

I mean, the ghost thing in the glass box is like nothing ever seen in anything related to Twin Peaks before. I figure it is the spirit of the baby from Eraserhead all grown up.

Michael Anderson: "I want nothing to do with this and I am crazy now!"
Twin Peaks: "We are replacing you with a weird tree."

Edit: There was one bit with Mike (One-armer) and the tree in the red room that looked like really bad green screen. Like, I felt like that one 5 second bit was directed by Tim and Eric. It was the only upsetting for me (upsetting in that it looked bad, there were plenty of upsetting moments that were good.)

Loved the original series and even slogged through the James bits in season 2 on multiple rewatches, but the vibe of this feels off to me. I feel like you can get away with a glacial pace like Better Call Saul, or you can get away with being super weird and artsy/abstract like Legion/Leftovers, or you can get away with tons of new characters like Game of Thrones, but all three at once is so disorienting that it's hard for me to watch sometimes, especially with so much time spent on new characters. I'm only 2 episodes in so far and I do intend to watch the whole thing, but I'm treating it like a new show with familiar cameos at this point.

Dougie was "manufactured" by Doppelganger Coop so that instead of Good Coop leaving the Lodge and Doppelganger Coop (Bob) returning to the Lodge, Good Coop would switch places with Dougie and Doppelganger Coop would remain at large, so that's where he is now. He's basically stuck in limbo, AKA Dougie's body/life, and he has no idea what the gently caress's going on or how to do anything.

I love the original series and I love this new season so far, but I totally get this. I think this new series is really for big Lynch fans. I know people who loved the original series hated Fire Walk With Me because it was so much more dark and terrifying than the series. One of the friends I watched with tonight commented that this felt a lot more like a horror series than the original, and I think that's pretty accurate. It's very very Lynch weird, and that's not everyone's thing. And I'm not trying to say "you just don't get it" or anything dismissive like that. It's absolutely not to everyone's tastes, but I think it's targeted at a portion of Twin Peaks fans who really get into the weird and incomprehensible stuff.

There's none of the cheesy music (no jazz/rock guitar playing in every single scene), but a lot of the camp of the original series is still here in this new season (albeit in different ways). It's definitely more like FWWM and his other movies than the original series, though, so I can totally understand why people who only watched the original series would be turned off by these episodes so far.

Yeah, I was happy that there were some funny scenes (FWWM was certainly lacking humor), but it is still very different from the original series in tone. The 1990's TV restrictions are off, so the dark parts are way more disturbing. And overall, it feels like Lynch wasn't restricted by the studio execs. The only thing holding him back this time was Mark Frost. In my opinion that makes for the most excellent television ever, but I know not everyone will feel the same. (And I really liked some of the cheezy music.)

OK, so, I've only seen the first ep so far (and only read the thread up to that page), but I really want to just say a few thingd as someone who really has practically WAITED OUT 18 of the 26 years desperately hoping for more.

And boy oh boy - after watching that finale, like.... It is SO RARE in real life when a music album or a film or a TV program actually... not only meets your ASTRONOMICALLY high expectations, but confounds them entirely. And then scares the ever living poo poo out of you, on top of that. That moment in the first episode with the two kids in the glass box in NYC, that really scared me. And it was so scary in all the buildup, in the anxiety and expectation that you have an expectation of something happening but it could come from anywhere, anything. The jump scare when it burst through the glass ACTUALLY made me jump, and I was clutching my cat in my lap for dear life during the buildup and when that happened i literally popped up in my seat for a second and scared the poo poo out of her too, poor kitty

I am ready to watch that second episode and I love that I have *truly* no clue what will happen.

I was sooo worried that my expectations were going to be way too big and I would end up disappointed. I've watched the original series about 15 times since I first saw it in the early 90's. I built up what to expect of this new season so much because I had been hoping for this to happen for literal decades. That it actually didn't disappoint is so wonderful.
And for the spoiler I haven't been really disturbed or upset by anything in horror movies for years, and that bit freaked me out more than anything I've seen in the last decade. Edit: I also love that pretty much nothing happens through the first episode to make you think that there is any possibility that a horrific silent hill ghost is going to literally eat faces.
