This game was designed for a very specific purpose, to recreate, as consistently as possible, a Friday the 13th movie in video game form. It doesn't surprise me that plenty of people who trying the game out are very quickly identifying things that could be more "balanced" or whatever but that's missing the point. Being within arms reach of Jason should be an instant kill 90% of the time, because the most important factor in properly recreating the movies is a truly terrifying Jason.

I have to disagree with a tip someone posted earlier about not barricading doors and speed searching cabins instead. I've discovered that Jason can break down doors that haven't been barricaded in a measly three hits. Any Jason players that know this can hamper future survival prospects by just quickly breaking down one door in each cabin he comes across. Fortifying doors will mitigate this, and is especially important if it's the cabin with the phone. Another tip is to open any windows you come across. This has several benefits: If anyone needs to make a dive through a window later on this will save them from taking a lot of damage. If a player has to open a window while Jason is breaking down the door, Jason might hear it and know to go and check if the player is trying to sneak away. Most importantly, single pane windows are very difficult for non-part 6/spear Jasons to break when they've been opened, preventing him from smashing the window and damaging the player if they have to climb through it.

Prox chat was both the best and the worst thing to happen to this game. Its fun to have Jason taunting people as he chases or whatever but 13 year old edgelords are grating on my nerves.

most Jasons I find have been silent or some guy saying "give Jason a hug don't you wanna be friends with me?"

It's all worth it for those times where you morph right outside a whole cabin of counselors who thought they were cruising to the finish and they all completely freak the gently caress out. That's why no matter how horrible the technical issues have been, it was worth getting in on this on Day 1. All the pants-making GBS threads and hardcore freakouts are to be had over the next few weeks before everyone starts playing the game robotically.

On the other hand, I had a kid, like maybe 10 or 11 by his voice, tagging along and freaking the gently caress out the whole time, and him alerting Jason was the most Friday the 13th thing ever. His screams as he was choked and his head was punched off were beautiful.

When I've played as Jason I've tried whistling In the Hall of the Mountain King so this could be M: The Game. Unfortunately I suck at whistling, so the effect is lost.

Speaking of prox chat, I don't understand the Stalk command. It mutes my mic. So? Is this just a benefit to people who don't have headsets with a mute button anyway? I know it increases audio pickup range, too, but I've never had it be beneficial.

It turns off the music cues that the counselors hear, so you could be in the same cabin as them and they wouldn't even know it.

Lasher posted:It's REALLY good at confusing people too. If you hit stalk while chasing someone the counselor hears the music die, same as teleporting away. Dumdums who don't look back will probably stop to get their stamina back and you can nab their asses. Stalk in a house is great because they will probably come out of hiding and you'll hear exactly where they are, or more likely they'll run right into you. And, of course, there's hitting stalk when everyone is all together, usually in the main Higgins house or the Packanack lodge. You can walk right in and 6 idiots will immediately scream and scramble into each other.

Small thing, but there is an option in the audio settings to mute copyrighted audio. The bar had been set for any future "streaming-friendly" games.

How big is the game? I'm thinking of doing a Steam demo, but I'm just wondering how large it is. Also does the game have any launch screen pop up that could keep the clock ticking and someone not realise it? I only ask the latter because it's how I wound up with 27 hours on Polaris Sector and the inability to return it.

Is there a Steam group for this game or is it just console stuff right now?

There's no launch pad, though there's a little splash screen that goes away by itself. Maybe hold off a couple of days until they get the servers right.

I'm just hoping all these servers issues on a long holiday weekend don't wind up scaring off the player base.

Fifteen or so character models. A few building models, a few miscellaneous models, 4 gigs is about right.

You can even tell it is done all in-engine by the horrific Play-Doh expressions that play during the level intros.

Is there a way to use a gun after you get out of a car? I just played a session on the PS4 as Tommy and we were about to leave when Jason showed up. I got out of the car to shoot him but for some reason I couldn't aim at all, which got the rest of us killed.

Who cares about the semantics of doors. The most efficient thing for the counselors to do at start, is not securing the first building you run into. Instead, check everything and grab the parts you need to finish up the escape vehicles. Longer the round progresses, the more likely you and everyone else is to die. Early game Jason is extremely weak and not taking advantage of that is stupid. After you hear the 2nd Ki ki ki ma ma ma, then start securing because at that point Jason now has his 3rd ability which usually is Shift.

His accuracy with shift was uncanny; he popped in front of the car at least five times, and was shift-grabbing everybody. It's still early so it's hard to say, but I wonder what kind of balance changes will get introduced down the line. Some people are saying that the game will gradually tip in the counselors' favor as people unlock more perks to use.
