The GOP will never run out of money hth

The idea of the GOP running out of money is even more ridiculous when you consider they've spent so much money on elections that they're running ads when there aren't even elections going on. You watch CNN long enough you'll see an ad along the lines of "call your senator today and tell them you support The Grind the poor into meat filler act of 2017".

Same thing with democrat donors to be honest actually. Rich people have long passed the point of using money effectively to influence elections, now they're just showing off.

Ossof isn't "great" but you are a complete and overwhelming moron if you think 1 seat doesn't matter. Almost every single thing passing the house is passing by barely 10+ votes.

It makes you a Bad Dem if you think there is more to be gained symbolically by losing instead of winning. It's the territory of west wing huffers who believes politics is about optics and signaling instead of a brutal war of ideology. I've outlined this handy list regarding the past 2 special elections. Obviously dems have already lost Montana but the points are valid

Best case scenario: Dems win both seats, +2 pickup, GOP running scared
Next best: Quist wins, Ossof losses. Shows progressive policies have potential to win elections
Also good: Quist loses, Ossof wins. +1 pickup, GOP still somewhat scared. Has potential downside of liberalism gaining more ground.
Bad: GOP wins both seats. Dems are still failures, death is certain.

Voting for Ossof is fine. Voting for Hillary was fine. What wasn't fine was rushing to their defense whenever someone rightfully points out their lovely policies and deflecting all criticism of them by saying "well they aren't as bad as they could be."

Ossoff is kind of a little poo poo and in a better world he'd never be allowed to sniff public office.

Unfortunately we don't live in that world and, as low a bar as it is, "better than a Republican" is still a factor worth accounting for.

as a reminder, a lot of people (as in the ones who straight up didn't vote) saw that they were bound for a bad deal either way and said gently caress it.

how many more of these "pragmatic" votes do we have to make before we will truly start the process of forming a committee to explore the possibility of future generations of Democrats maybe thinking about pushing for things other than market-based solutions and trickle-down economics?

well, tbh unless you live in georgia you don't have to make a pragmatic vote. even then, it's a smalltime dem who supports death for everyone that's not in the 0.01% in 20 years as opposed to a republican who supports death for everyone next week. as lovely as ossoff is, he's not near controlling every facet of the party unlike she who shall remain nameless, so there's that too

I mean, maybe we could actually win elections if we had candidates who could listen to criticism from within the party and respond to those criticisms in a credible way that could resonate with voters without the need of lanyards shouting them down as wanting the Republicans to win.

...but that would actually mean both growing and showing a backbone and what would our donors think?!?
